How long have you stayed on a diet?

I just started a diet, it's a six week one where I have to write everything that I eat down and count the carbs, fat, protein and calories. I've never done this before and it's been 5 days and I'm actually still doing it! I thought for sure the first morning that I would quit when I realized that I didn't really like the food on the diet menu! But I made it through. Now I'm concerned about staying on it for the full six weeks. What's the longest you've been on a diet and did you cheat on it? Feel quilty if you did cheat?

Well interesting question I must say. I have been on a diet, but not for a specific time, I follow a stable diet, which consists of all the basic nutrients i need, and also, the snacks\fast food, but that is once 2 weeks. So that way I also curb my years for tid-bits, and at the same time, follow a healthy diet. If you suddenly go extreme on yourself, and then suddenly go loose, it will harm more than benefit you. [ unless you are a person of extremely good will power, who can control his desires after the time set for diet too ]. You have to go easy on yourself. Good Luck dieting though!

That's part of what I'm worried about, how out of control I may go when I'm off the diet. I wish it was easier to lose than to gain. I haven't gained weight in years but haven't lost either. I am amazed at my will power right now though:)

i dont think i have enough dicipline to stay on a specific diet, i mostly just eat healthy and work out a couple days a week. the longest ive been on a diet would be around 3 weeks but without the instand gratification, i felt like it wasn't doing anything for me so i quit.

I didn't think I had enough discipline either, but about a week before I started the diet I got it in my head that I can do it. I think the long term results will be worth it but oh how I miss chocolate covered almonds....

I've never dieted in my life. Tell me, what happens when the six weeks are up? What you have to do sounds like a real pain...I certainly couldn't do it. If you have to write things down, like measurements, amounts and stuff, does that mean you have to weigh everything and then work out the fat content, number of carbs, and calories and whatever with the protein of the portion? And you have to do that with everything? You won't have time to eat. I'll bet you are already looking forward to stopping this one....if you haven't already. What is the end result supposed to be? Will you continue doing the diet or will you go back to your normal way of eating?

Hi. I used to diet and it took me two years I guess yet its very unhealthy since I had no specific diet plan to follow. I just stop eating rice when I was on my 3rd and 4th year in College or let me put it this way, barely eat at all. I grabbed bread and vegetable on breakfast and vegetable at noon, no food intake during dinner. There was a time that I had some eating problem that was vomitting after I ate. Recently I gained helluva of weight and planning to reduce my carbohydrates intake. I dunno if I can take of not eating rice again. Well, gotta do it soon.

I was a vegetarian from the begining of 7th grade to just after the end of my senior year in high school. So about 6 years.

Diets are crap, especially if you don't know how to diet right. I would just say exercise and stay away from junk food. But unless you're in your adult age you dont need to diet it's for older people
