How do you feel about negative topics?

I am a very sarcastic person and can take a lot of negativity. But as I browse topics in here, I notice the vast majority start this way. Excluding politics, which it hard to stay positive with this. I really think that some of these people should be spending their mylot time at a therapists office. People seem to like to spew this negativity and for the most part I ignore these discussions but when one page is 90% negative, it is getting harder. What do you think? Do you respond to these negative discussions?

I respond to the negative discussions only when I am in the bad mood. But when I feel that everything is OK, I try to neglect all negative things. Yes, I perfectly understand that it is the position of the egoist but it is my personality. I am not perfect but who is perfect?

The discussions I am speaking of are just hateful mindless stuff, over and over by the same people.

It depends on the topic, of course, whether I will respond to it or not. I agree that many people suffer from negativity to a greater or less extent. Negative thinking is really the single most disabling disease in this world today. It is thought by many people, in fact, to be the root cause of most of this world's ills, both mental and physical! (Take a look at http://www.emofree.com/a/?3252 for some very interesting information and proof of this.) When I feel I can do so, I try to respond to negative topics with a positive response. I believe that, if you can introduce positivity into a negative argument, there is a chance that people will begin to see the validity of it and may even change their way of thinking. A smile is one of the most catching things in the world. We need more friendly smiles (and fewer jokes at the expense of others!)

Sometimes you manage to get more attention and responses with a negative title. Take a look at the news. Negative news is always given the limelight while positivew news is rarely mentioned.

I agree. I once thought about quitting Mylot completely due to all the sad news stories. I don't watch or read the news because it's so depressing, and when I hear certain stories it turns my stomach. But now I can't avoid it with Mylot, it ends up in my e-mail. It's so sad. Then there is all the other negativity that people are dealing with personally. It's just a major downer. I think people have a really hard time focusing on positives these days. It's very sad.

I think for the most part a lot of members here have the opportunity to hide behind the monitor, so they say and talk about things that their normal lives and people in their lives would not tolerate. They can spew their venom and its not held against them. They are not judged by what they say. We aren't really their friends...lol You can have a alter ego here and nobody knows your counter part. Sometimes I too feel like I am reading the transcripts from a therapist's office, when I read the discussions. Some of the stuff I couldn't imagine sharing or talking about, even if nobody knows your name...lol But all and all I think its to be expected in this type of forum, you just weed it out and keep it moving.

LOl Not everything out there is sunshine and roses. I see things on MyLot like "people I admire" hobbies, roles I play in life, I'd like to see an interest category for "things that drive me crazy!!" Imagine all of the discussions people would start in there. LOL Imagine all the interests added.

I feel that a discussion that starts out negative can be made positive if you have a positive point of view to add to it. It is all in how you perceive things in life. Yes, I respond to these discussions becauase life is not always a positive thing for everyone. Some of these negative-starting discussions just need a different, more positive view-point. I feel that I am a positive enough person, and objective enough to make things a bit more positive.
