coffee reduces the risk of Alzheimer's disease, parkinson's disease, heart disease, could help in diabetes, a great help in diabetes, liver & gout problems. but other than that coffee has antioxidants that prevent free radicals from causing cell damage. coffee's negative on the other hand is mostly due to the fact that it has caffeine which is to known fact. what we do need to take note is that, excessive intake of coffee or any excessive intake of food has always its side/bad effect. i've read some things re:coffee and so far the side effects of drinking too much coffee are the following: temporary magnesium deficiency, risk factor for coronary heart disease & a mixed side effect of short-term memory. i'm a coffee addict myself but i always think of it this way, too much of everything is bad too. hope this helps.. prevention is still better than cure :)

Would this be like the brain Damage people can get when drinking excessive amounts of water,or is this something caffeine related? I was using www.stumbleupon.com (recommended!) and found a list of caffeine containing beverages and how many of them you could expect to be able to drink before dying of caffeine overdose...They DID forget to mention if this was cumulative,ie,over the course of your life,or if you sat there and drank them one after another...most of these beverages were into the Hundreds,if not thousands in the rankings..I don't think my one or 2 mugs a day (at most) are going to kill Me..

Oh dear I am in trouble then as coffee is all that I drink! I have never heard of this before, but it does not surprise me as there is always something that is bad for us or kills us. I do not think I would let it interfere with my coffee drinking not unless a doctor told me that I had to stop drinking it.

Yes, I agree with you that coffee is something that I too can,t live without it. I am now retiring from my job because i have reached 60 yrs. old and I have not received prescription from the doctor that too much coffee will lead to brain damage. I have been taking coffee and almost 8 times a day and 3 times before going to bed at night. For me, coffee makes me alert. Without it my pulse becomes weak.
