How do you pack?

I just finished packing for an overnight trip. It took me 15 minutes, and for once I'm not stressing, and I'm ready to go long before our estimated time of departure. I wasn't always that way. I hated going to sleepovers, because I usually forgot something essential like my toothbrush or deodorant. I always preferred others coming to my house, instead. In the past, I usually spent a week preparing to pack for my vacations that were more than a few days. It always caused a lot of stress, and I always worried about forgetting something. Why I put myself through so much stress, I don't know. So it's a new thing for me to be able to pack in a reasonable amount of time and have everything I need and to not stress over the trip. So fellow mylotters...how do you pack? Do you throw things willy nilly into a suitcase, or are you a planner, taking days to pack for a trip?

yes I am more like a planner I hate going on last minute because I don't always remember what to take or what to get I don't like anything last minute actually, not only packing and I will gladly refuse an invitation if necessary there are times I am spontaneous but that will be a trip that involves myself and it won't be anything important

I'm rarely spontaneous, as well.

Katrinka - hi. Here's the deal. It doesn't matter how long I'm away, I know I still need all my things. It's easier for me just to pack everything, rather than spend hours picking and choosing. One more trick, you know that saying "I know as soon as I close my suitcase I'll remember something I forgot?" So, you leave your suitcase open forever and your cat falls asleep in it? Well, just close your suitcase as soon as you think you're done. It's a great time saver.

Good idea. Besides, I hate cat hair on all my clothes.

Since most of my trips are longer than a few days, I start about a week and a half ahead. I normally sit down and make a list of what I need to pack, and things I need to do around the house before I leave. I keep my list handy so if I think of something I can add it to the lists. I start actually packing about 2 days ahead of when I'll be leaving. I like to get all the laundry done before I leave, so I pack things I'll be taking when I fold and put the laundry up. I usually pack everything in the vehicle I'll be taking the night before, since for most trips I like to get a fairly early start on the day I'm leaving. Then the day I leave, all I have to do is put in the few things I needed that morning, like tooth brush, etc. and I'm ready to go.

You sound very methodical and organized. I used to make lists before I packed, but I still always forgot something! Bon voyage! Thanks for the response.
