hello. i would like to ask for help on understanding the basic concept of credit cards. i know, you must be wondering, "has she been living under a rock all this time?" i have sworn off credit cards simply becuase i saw them as an added expense that i simply did not need. i never needed credit cause i had cash. now that i am dabbling with online entrepreneurship, i found out that having a credit card is necessary. since i am new to this concept i need help understanding credit cards. here are some of my questions: 1. once i get my credit card what next? 2. if a site says they accept visa credit card payments will they also accept Visa electron? isn't there a difference between plain visa and visa electron? 3. does a master card debit card have the same function as a master card credit card? can i use a master card debit card instead of a credit card to pay for an online purchase?

Credit cards can be beneficial when used appropriately. Try not to charge more than you can pay off in a month, and you will avoid finance charges, which can cost you a small fortune if interest is allowed to accumulate over several months. Once you have your credit card, you will need to activate it - a security feature put in place to insure that the card has gone to the correct person. Usually this is done by phone or over the internet and is very fast. Then you may use it as you see fit, provided you stay within your credit limit and make at LEAST the minimum montly payment. I have no idea what Visa electron is, so I cannot address this question. A debit card and a credit card ARE different things, but can perform the same functions - most debit cards can be used for a credit transaction. I use mine like that ALL the time, as do many others. I hope that helps!

I have been a visa credit card holder for a long time already. Credit cards have both positive and negative aspects. You can use it for emergency if you dont have cash on hand. Because not alot of people carry cash around. You can use it for buying necessities like groceries and medicines. The negative aspect would be you'll be in debt and if you dont pay for the credit you used, your debt will increase and accumulate. Once you get your credit card, you can use it immediately. I think visa is different from visa electron and a mastercard debit card is different from a mastercard credit card. You deposit your own money in the debit card and once you use it, money is deducted. Unlike in credit card where you borrow money from the bank or credit card company.

oh ok. now that makes better sense ganda. i guess i have to ask online merchants if they accept visa electron first before trying to pay for a service or product. i'm going to apply for electron instead of just plain visa

I think the previous couple of response above already answered your questions. I would just like to add that you should remember the difference between debit cards and credit cards. Debit (Visa) cards (not all debit cards may be used in Credit Card machines) can only be used depending on how much you have - it's really like holding your card, instead of your cash - BUT the money is already yours and is already in the bank account that the card is attached to. The Credit Card on the other hand is credited to you - you have to pay for the expenses that you spend now by the time allotted. You can spend the money that you still do not hold, but you eventually have to pay for it. You should also know that failure to pay by the deadline means that you have to pay the interest that accumulates over time. There is also an option in Credit Cards to be Debit by default - which means that you will first be charged through the money that you deposited in the bank for as long as you have it, and later charged credit if your account is no long sufficient. Thanks for the response on my discussion!
