I ran across a sentence when reading The Diary of a Nobody, which says: She looks wonderfully well, except that the sun has caught her nose. I'm a little puzzled by the second half "except that the sun has caught her nose". Should this part be understood literally or be take as "she is very proud and keep her nose high so the sun has caught it"? How do you take this?
