Curiousity killed the cat!

Do you know the meaning of the old saying "Curiousity killed the cat"??Do you believe this?If it is true ,whether we should stick to all old rules?

i thought curiousity killed the crow until our cat was run over by a truck in front of our own house.. the neighbors who saw the incident said the cat ran onto the road to toy with some cola can which was rolling on the road when a truck sped that way and ran it over..
