Do you remember the first time you gave birth?

I gave birth to my first baby more than 9 months ago. I was due on January 6, 2008, But I gave birth a month earlier. I just came back from a week-long vacation because I had pregnancy-related infection and I was advised to go on bed rest. That very same day I went back to the office is the same day that I gave birth to my daughter. I remember all the details like it was yesterday. It was past 3pm and I was checking my e-mails on my office computer. I felt a gush of liquid between my legs. I thought it was just a discharge which is common for pregnant women. But as I could really feel the liquid still flowing and I couldn't control it. So, I went to the comfort room to check. I was shocked to see that the liquid wasn't my urine. I knew then that I had to give birth within 24 hours. I went back to the office, told my husband that my waterbag just broke. I can still remember the panic on his face. He took me to the hospital immediately. Upon reaching the hospital, the nurses asked me too many questions. I also found out that I was already 4cm dilated that time but I didn't feel any pain. When I talked to my OB, she told me that I have to undergo C-section because the baby is still breeched. They wheeled me to the OR. I was strapped to the blood pressure monitor. Later on, they injected me something that made me groggy. That was the last thing I remembered. The next time I opened my eyes, my tummy was small and I was inside the recovery room not feeling anything waist down. I saw my baby the following day and I couldn't believe I just gave birth to that wonderful creation of God. How about you? Do you remember the details of the first time you gave birth? Yes. I remember it so clearly. I had called off from work the night before because my back was hurting terribly. But that day I went to work because I didn't want to miss anymore work. My back was still hurting and a co-worker asked me how far apart I was getting pains in my back. I thought maybe I had a kidney infection or something. Fortunately my friend was a little smarter about such things. She started timing and the pains were coming 2 minutes apart. She took me to the hospital and went to locate my husband who was supposed to be headed out of town for work. She caught up to him before he left. A few hours later I had a c-section. My son was also breech. I remember the first time I saw him and the first time I held him. There is nothing in this world that can compare. If you ever hear stories of back labor, believe it, it is true.

It's actually the first time I heard about back labor. In my birthing class, (yes, I took lamaze lessons but never got to use it!), we were taught that contractions are located in the stomach. They say you may feel it on your upper or lower abdomen. Wow! You're really lucky to have that officemate.

I have since had two other children. With each I had normal labor pains. The "back labor" I experienced with the first was nothing like the other two. I honestly did not know I was in labor with the first, while there was no mistaking it for the other two.

Yup, I remember! I had my twins 6 1/2 months ago. I had been waiting anxiously since January (I was due in March), because I've heard from tons of people that twins go early... not to mention I was so miserable & uncomfortable I wanted them out already! Everyday that went by I waited & waited. I tried everything I've heard of to induce labor... nothing happened. We even moved into my parents house, and I thought for sure with all of the lifting, work, etc. that might start things... but no!! So when I went for my check-up at 37 weeks, I was practically begging my doctor to give me a C-Section (they were going to anyways, because one was breech). She said ok, we'd schedule it for the next week. I was pretty afraid because I'd never had surgery, let alone been in the hospital for anything in my life, but it was nice having a scheduled date of when they would be here, so I could go grocery shopping before they came, get things together, etc. We woke up & got to the hospital at 6:30 that Tuesday morning. I was terrified. We waited in the room for my nurse to come & give me an IV, which actually didn't seem that bad. My C-Section was scheduled for 8:30, but my doctor was tied up with someone who was giving birth, so it got pushed back to 9:00. I was waiting anxiously in the room, going through all the "what-ifs" in my mind. Then my dr. & the anesthesiolgist came in. They brought me back to the OR & gave me a spinal tap. I remember not being able to feel myself breathe & I was scared out of my mind! Then I got used to it, and I was fine. They finally brought my husband in & started things & in no time I had my babies! It was crazy how much smaller my stomach was and how different it felt! After the procedure, my husband went to the nursery with the babies, while I went back to the room for an hour to recover. I was pretty bummed out I had to wait an hour before I saw them, but it went by pretty fast. I remember when my husband brought them into my room, and gave me one to hold & I asked (still kind of out of it) which one is this? lol

hey, nice to know you were able to go full term even with twins. I'm just curious what is the weight of each baby?

I remember my first one too. It was just over 6 years ago. My husband and I went to bed. I was feeling a little crampy but i didn't think it was anything but pain from carrying such a big belly. The cramps got worse over night. My husband gets up at 4am to go to work. He asked me if I wanted him to take me to the hospital. I said no I'm fine. Well right after he left they got worse. I suffered it out alone at home as long as I could. finally i thought it wasn't too early so i called my mom and told her i thought i was in labor. she sent my sister up to drive me to the hospital. I got a shower and we went. i was already 4-1/2 cm when i got there. we called my husband and he came to be with me. everyone paraded through to see me before i gave birth. they wanted to break my water but i thought it would hurt so i put it off. it still hadn't broke so i finally let them do it. things moved along pretty good then. it seemed like i pushed forever. i'd push and then have to take a break and she would slide back in lol. then with one hard push she was there. 8 lb 10 oz buddle of joy.

I remember fully the first time I gave birth. Around 2am on June 12, 2002, I woke up because I felt that some fluid is coming out of me already. I was briefed clearly by my OB-Gyne that since I am on my 9th month, I shoud be watchful of all the changes in me, including fluid excretion. I knew it wasn't pee, so I stood up. But hush!!! That was plenty! Eventually, I woke my husband up. I told him that I think my waterbag just broke. He was in total panic. But I knew then that I was just calm. He told me to wait and said he'll just call his dad for the car. By 3am, we were in the hospital. The attending doctor said my waterbag broke but it isn't dilating yet... It isn't contracting either. He kept on checking until 8am but nothing changed. It's not getting any wider... By 8:30am, I was induced (given an injection). By the time the medication reacted, the contraction begun. Whew!!! It's just like they tickling my baby inside. I can still remember the pain. Sideways, while in the delivery room, I heard the attendants chatting with my doctors. I asked what's going on, the doctor said they were still observing whether I can deliver the baby by normal or caesarian section. But it was already 11:45am, I can see the big clock by the wall, when my OB said that I am tired already and the baby was tired as well. And so, I will be operated. She was going out when I stopped her, "Doc, if you're going to have me for caesarian operation, do it now!" But she said, "Hold on, I have to tell your husband." After 10 to 15mins, she's back, "Oh boy, you're husband is crying. He keeps on asking if you're going to be ok..." And so, by about 12noon, they're preparing to have me for the operation.:)

Your story is similar to my friend's story. She went through 15 hours of labor only to find out later that she cannot deliver normally and she was put under the knives through a caesarian section.
