The Incompetent Press, Still Batting 1000

I went to the Obama Campaign Rally in Green Bay, WI the other day (something I plan on writing about sometime). One of the many reporters there overheard me talking to an older woman about her grandson in Iraq. As part of the conversation, I told the woman that I am a retired NCO.
The reporter asked me a few questions about my service and such, then she asked me if I'm supporting Obama. When I told her that I'm not an Obama supporter, her face fell. Her professional demeanor became cold, but not quite hostile.
I guess she wasn't interested in me unless she could get some kind of "anti Iraq" statement from a retired Army NCO.
I've been interviewed by members of the press a dozen or so times, each time I was either misquoted or taken out of context. I've been on scene when journalists reported about situations from simple ambulance calls to major disasters. In every case, we wondered what situation the 'reporter' was talking about.
And people wonder why I usually put the word "incompetent" first when I say the word "press".

So many times what we say doesn't come out in such a way that many can understand.
We say something but it's heard in a different way.
So like most reporters who are looking for that quote that will make them famous is all they want to hear. Just take a look at this pic and you will see what I mean.

That could explain why they always seemed to miss my meaning, but why do they change my quote to fit their agenda? Or why do they end the interview when they decide I'm not going to be who they wanted me to be.

ParaTed,
Thanks for your career service to our great nation! As a Viet Nam era vet I know the chagrin that you feel about the media. Of course they are only incompetent by perception. If a person is liberal, he/she percieves them very competent.

Yeah, you know more than me. You were in the war where Walter Chronkite (The most trusted man in America) used a battle that the US actually WON as evidence that the war was "unwinnable".
Thank you for your service also!
Even if I was liberal, I'd hope that I'd be intellectually honest enough to admit that the press is incompetent. ;~D

I think it's pretty obvious to any thinking person the MSM is not looking for a dose of the truth. That's why when you gave your opinion to that reporter she reacted as if you had made her take some bad tasting medicine.

Apparently I've been bad medicine for a long time now.. even before I learned that the incompetent press is pretty bad medicine themselves.

No one enjoys taking bad tasting medicine but usually it is a remedy for whatever is ailing us. A dose of the truth will help make the world a better place.
