Turning A Blind Eye

Imagine if you saw a car hit your neighbour's car and you had an opportunity to take down the number plate/license plate of the car that has just hit your neighbours car, now the offending car has caused quite a bit of damage But you hate your neighbour and for whatever reason you and your neighbour do NOT get on! Do you give your neighbour the license plate of the car that badly damaged theirs or do you keep quiet? Remember NO ONE was HURT! Just your neighbours car badly damaged So would you enjoy the moment or would you use the opportunity to mend bridges also taking into account is that if the situation was reversed you knew damn well that your neighbour wouldn't do anything if it happened to your car! Turning a blind eye or A nicely served ice cold dish of revenge? Which would you choose and why! (Honesty is important and I won't judge!)

Well considering I hate my neighbours as they have called the cops on us quite a few times over stupid petty things. But mind you we do have some nice neighbours. For the nice neighbours I would definatly let them know the licence plate number and help them in anyway that I could. However with the other neighbours that I don't care for I really couldn't care less what happens to the car. I might even go out and tell the person who hit the car to do it again. They have done too much to me. I posted a discussion about one neighbour who was doing her roof. In this case my motorcycle was damaged and I had to shell out a fair amount of money due to custom parts and shipping and handling costs. Needless to say I was not allowed to drive my bike for the rest of the season. So that is my first problem. However yes she did pay once lawyers were involved but it was the fact that she did nothing or even asked if I could move the bike. So I say eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. You got yours and I got mine now.

We are only human after all and if we are treated with respect then we will respect if we are treated with animosity, hatred and disrspect then we return that too! So yes I fully agree with you an eye for an eye shame the system doesn't work that way!

That would e a crime! I would give the nieghbor the license plate but I would also cal the police! That falls under legal issues because its someone leaving the scene of a crime! It would be wrong not to do your duty as a law abiding citizen. So really , no personal feelings should be a part of the decision!

Thank you my friend, I think it would also depend on the country regarding whether it was considered a crime or not, please correct me if I am wrong

It could be aiding and abeding to withhold that i!Information ! To fail to report a crime here can get you into alot of legal trouble.I would do it because what if a week later your car was hit? What would you want a neighbor to do for you? Its the do unto others as you would have them do unto you? I would also consider that person may be involved in other crimes and could be involved in serious crimes and have warrents out on them as well.

I wouldn't take do the plate number and I wouldn't go out of my way to tell them. They would have to come to me ask ask if I saw anything. I would probably tell them I saw the car but not the plate or know what the make or model is (can play dumb blonde on cue), but a non committable guess on the color and maybe how many doors. And no I didn't see who was driving. The reason I would do this is because there is a good chance that if it happened to me they wouldn't do it either, so an eye for an eye.

Can I be the dumb brunette then LOL! Because I would do exactly the same, men aren't good at noticing things are they, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, mind you I'd probably wouldn't be able to keep a straight face anyhow because I would be laughing about it, bad Wolfie!

I would take down the plate number of the offending car and give it to my neighbor, though, we don't talk at all. I would not want anything like that happening to me and my neighbor turning a blind eye. I will just simply hand my neighbor the paper on which I wrote down the plate number tell him/her about what happened and then just walk away. It is up to him/her to thank me or feel anything about what i did. But i will not expect anything from him/her in return. I will just pray that it never happens to me or to anyone i love.

Hello wolfie I think I would probably tell my neighbour then I would feel like I had the upper hand over them and also it would be a good way of breaking the ice between myself and the neighbour.

Only if I could break the ice over their head LOL! I am fortunate where I live now and would happily hand over the details. Previous neighbours I would have rubbed my paws with glee, payback time for waking me up at 3am with the washing machine too frequently!

Well I guess it really does depend on how unreasonable your neighbours have been but I think my concience would get the better of me!!

WE have this saying in Filipino "Pag binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay." Translation : A neighbor threw a rock to you, throw a bread back. In relation to your story, my point is, it doesn't mean that your neighbor ticks you off, you'll do the same thing to him. Another saying is "Don't do unto others what you do not want to do unto you." If you are wise, and have compassion, You will not go to your neighbor's level and not be selfish about getting the plate number down who made the damage to your neighbor's car. What if same thing happen to you, you might be surprise that your neighbor have lend a hand to you. Just do the right thing, basically.

As I am in the position of having a neighbour who I can't stand I would be thrilled that their car was damaged and would not give them the number plate of the owner of the car. It would be lovely revenge for the times they have kept me awake with their awful bass music and for the ause we have had from them since they moved in. You've really made me hope this would happen now, I'm just evil.

You are NOT evil, you are human! And that would make me evil too because I would rub my hands in glee, revenge is definitely a tasty dish! Thank you. If you wish hard enough ;0)

I would jot down the care plate number and hand it to my neighbour. I think it's my duty as a good citizen to do so, even if we are not on friendly terms. It might be a good opportunity to mend bridges and start a fresh page. Hopefully a good deed will be returned with another good deed.

As long as they met you half way too! I would hate to have met them half way only to have the proverbial door shut in my face then I'd be seething thinking I'd helped them and for what? Two different sides of the coin, thank you my friend

I would take down the number plate and tell the owner of the car that was hit. This happened to me once. I was parked in a car park in what I thought was a safe spot and while I was in the shops a girl who apparently did not know how to turn right ran into my car. Luckily for me someone made her stop and give him her details which he gave to me when I got back to my car. I was so glad because it was not my fault and I got her insurance to pay for the damage to be fixed. I have a problem with people who hit a car and keep driving. I don't care who they are. Even if I did not get on with my neighbor I would never let them suffer in this way because I know what it is like to find your car damaged.

I would definitely give my neighbor the license plate number. I would want him to do the same for me. Even if we didn't get along, I'm not that evil!

If you don't want to involve yourself with your neighbor maybe you could just give an anonymous tip to the police for that matter. In that way you won't feel guilty that you turned a blind eye at the same time you won't be involved with your neighbor.

Ok wolfie, here it is! I have a neighbor that I totally hate! If it was her car I wouldn't do a thing! I would enjoy every last inch of her car being ffffffffffd up! I wouldn't even bother to take the plate number, wouldn't tell anyone that I saw anything, knew anything would just enjoy her misery. This person would never do anything for anyone so I think any of the other neighbors would also look the other way and she would deserve it. But this is just this one neighbor. That's all you asked right? Oh, and by the way this beotch tried to hit me with said car! So sweet revenge it would be!

Nothing like a nice ice cold dish of revenge hey! Good for you my friend, with you all the way there, I see most responses are giving the info over, and I seem to be in the minority for going for the revenge aspect, but hey if I had good neighbours then I would freely hand over the info.

You've thought really hard about this one! It's definitely tricky! I think on first thought, I would turn a blind eye. I'm thinking to myself all that anger would finally come out and I would cry out "Justice! At last!" Then again, I would not want that happening to me! If my car was damaged and someone noticed this and had all the details of the offender, I would want to know about it immediately. And then, yet again, I don't know what I would do as I have never had a problem with any of my neighbours thus far! As difficult as this subject is, I think I would travel down the road of revenge!! To heck with the neighbours!! Andrew

Yes it is a tricky one my friend, and justice is a very rare specimen indeed and not very common in the UK, in fact justice I don't think exists so it's up to us to get our own little precious piece of justice and yes I would definite err on the side of revenge, however if my neighbours are friendly and warm then I would swing the other way.

My initial thoughts would be to step up and help out...make things right. But if previous behaviour meant that my efforts would be thrown in my face then I would maybe think twice about being of help. I'd have to think about the consequences...it might be better all round if I kept the info to myself.

I can't really turn a blind eye for what happened even if my neighbor and I don't seem to see eye to eye. It is irrelevant to me if he/she won't the same. What is important to me is what I do. At least at the end of the day, I have a clear conscience that I have acted based on my values and convictions.

Hi wolfie, You have a good imagination and your ideas are good. Wolfie, I really think I would have to take down the plate number and give it to my neighbour. It's just the way I am, I've never been into revenge. Blessings.

It's one of my talents, but I do have weaknesses as well my friend, I have a thirst for revenge and I would just laugh! Bad Wolfie I know, although I'd have to say my current neighbours are ok and for them I would tell them, but if I hated them then I wouldn't.

My concience and my upbringing would make me tell the neighbour lol..... and there would be the added upper hand that I know that I wouldnt be stooping to his level by not telling him!!! I probably would regret that decision though lol :-)

the right thing to do would be to take down the number and give it to my neighbour but somehow i feel the devil inside me would overrule me and instruct me to keep mum about it. i guess i would keep quiet about it. haha. i would not want to strike a conversation with the neighbout as he may have the wrong impression that i trying to sarbotage him. but honestly if the relationship is so bad, do you think he would believe you are so kind to give him the information? he may think u are out to play punk and instead bark back at you. he may also think you are shedding crocodile tears and trying to laugh at his misery. too many ifs to me in this instance
