As a kid did you ever just laze around looking up at the sky?

Did you ever just lay on your back and find shapes in the clouds? On a warm summer or fall day did you find yourself doing this? As a kid I did. Whether it was with my sister or some friends. And we would break up laughing at some of the things we each saw. I think this is a simple pleasure. a pass time that has died out. Would you be willing to lay on your back in the grass with you kids and do this?

My Dad used to have a big hill in his back yard and I would lay there for hours watching clouds. I seemed to quit doing it as I got older and found other interests. I've seen my nephew do it a few times and it always makes me think of when I did it.

I would like to say I had such memories, but generally I forget most of my childhood. it seems like it is a world away, now. In many ways, that's a good thing.

Ahh that brings back so many childhood memories of me and my siblings laying in a circle heads together trying to see who could spot the most and best shapes in the clouds. We spent hours doing that. It is great way to use the imagination. I have done this with my little sister but the bugs in the grass eat us up so much we have to move to the porch usually it isn't as full and imaginative but still it is our special time together.

When I was a young kid with no worries, I remember having a kite in my hand and playing with it in a field until lunch time. Only my mother's call would disrupt me from playing together with my brother and gazing for ages at the blue sky.

Are you kidding me? I still do that now given the chance. I used to find myself laying out beneath the sky, and there was nothing finer than feeling the warmth of the sun on my face and body, or feeling a gentle breeze rustle my hair. I often equate feeling that way with the long days of summer, when we were out of school on break.
I think that kids today miss out on those kinds of moments. Their world is so much faster than ours was at that time and I wonder sometimes if they're getting slighted of the simpler pleasures you were referring to above. I certainly feel like they are. Their lives are so much more complicated, so much faster, and there are so many distractions that we just didn't have back then. There were no cell phones, portable media players or hand held video games. There was long summer days and comfortable front yards, and kids from around the neighborhood who did the same thing.
As for doing this with my kids...whenever I get the chance to slow down enough with them to enjoy a moment like that, I most definitely do take advantage of it.

I still do that! I love it and I also love to lay in the yard at night and look at the stars. My kids used to enjoy it, but they seem to have too much energy now and want to get up and run around!
