18 wild turkeys, I saw 18 wild turkeys! How many have you seen at one time.

I could not believe that I saw 18 wild turkeys Tuesday. I thought people would think I was making it up, but someone 20 miles from where I was had seen 18 wild turkeys. Turkeys move so slowly that there must be more than one big group of them. In the past, I've seen 1, 2, 3 or even 4, but not a huge number like this. I saw two large adults and the rest were mid-sized. I stopped my car and counted, not once, but twice. I think that is amazing. Do you have very many wild animals or birds where you are? What kind? How many? Are there more or less this year than in years past? What is the most of any wild creature you have seen?

I've seen one - one, on a line in the middle of town - well, it wasn't the middle then, but it wasn't outside town either.

Years ago, all I ever saw was one. Then the 2, 3, and rarely 4 happened. Around 2 they said that turkeys were making a comeback. This year, I think they really came back!

I've never seen a wild turkey. We have lots of deer in Missouri although they are not in our immediate area. Some places have so many that it's amazing and they become a big nuisance. I have seen a possum once and a racoon. We are in the suburbs and don't see many animals. The wildest creature I've ever seen is our ex-son-in-law. He was a total loser..lol

Ha, ha, good thing he's an ex-son-in-law. Since DDT and other pesticides have been outlawed, lots of birds are coming back around here. I didn't see turkeys until I was probably 16 or 17. I saw my first ruffled grouse while walking in my woods, he passed by in the underbrush and he thought I didn't see him. I only saw a wild hare up here once. Man was he long! So were his ears. I don't think I've seen an oppossum (they start with an o, trust me on this, I tried in vain to find them in a dictionary one time when I was teaching, had to call another teacher, it starts with a silent o, dumb way to start). Eagles, they're cheating on those, they raise them and then try to teach them how to survive in the wild and then let them go. The rest have come back naturally. Red tailed hawks started coming back years ago, too. I think they were natural. I saw a gopher last year, he got big, too. He was hanging out in the barn and got into a fight with my cat, first time my cat ever lost a fight.

Do you live in a jungle? lol Yep, know possum starts with an "o" but the spelling looks funny. If I was to call a possum an opossum in the midwest, someone would think it was coo coo.

If it keeps raining every year like it has this year, we will be living in a temperate rainforest jungle, at this rate.

Hey writersedge. It must have been really cool to see that many wild turkeys hanging out together. I have seen them but not more than 3 or 4 together. I live in FL so, yes, there is alot of nature everywhere. There are so many exotic-looking birds down here: cormorants, egrets, sandhill cranes (those are so majestic!), pelicans, herons, seagulls, and many others. Also, there are gators and turtles of all sizes. We've got coyotes, wild boars, and Florida cougars, which are facing extinction. There's a huge population of feral cats down here. There are many more "creature encounters" now, due to all the land-clearing that's being done with all the building of condos and homes. My husband and I actually saw a cougar the first year we moved here, while walking in our neighborhood. I swear, I thought we were on Wild Kingdom! Those things are large and scary! It was about a half-block away and it stopped and turned around and looked at us (while we were looking at it), then it slowly turned back and kept walking the other way.

Wow! You have much more variety in nature to look at than I do. That must be something to see all those different kinds of animals. you don't have to go to a zoo, just for a walk! Seeing a cougar must have been scary, only have seen on TV and in a zoo. Take care and thanks.

Since I live in vegas, fat chance of seeing wild animals. But sometimes I see bunnies running in the dessert. That's my wildlife.

They must be very different looking bunnies to live in the dessert. Ours are fat and furry, some even get to be long. I've only seen one at a time, but some tame ones got away once and I saw a bunch of them.
