Are you a technology mom or dad?

I remember when my kids were young, pagers were the electronic thing to have among the young people. We didn't get one for my oldest son... "What do you need a pager for?" we'd ask or "It will look like you're a drug dealer with a pager" these are the things hubby and I would say. Of course we used them for work but that was it. Then along came the internet email and chatting. We allowed the oldest to get online. We had two rules, no personal information exchanges with anyone, and no surfing without permission. Then came instant messaging. By then both boys were online. I would log the IM and password protect it so I could be sure they followed the rules, which thye did. Then came cell phones. By then the oldest was out of the house and had one. I didn't get one for the youngest until high school. Now he's in college. He hates to talk to me on the phone and many times I know he doesn't answer when he sees it's me. I decided to send a text one day and that ended the communication glitch! Now we text all the time. It's great, he always answers my messages. Added to that, all of us comment on facebook or myspace so I really can keep up with them both.
It's hard to believe we did without all these things back in the day.
So how about you, are you a tecnology parent? Do you communicate with your kids via the latest technology available?

Well antiquelady you should be proud of that computer. I don't blame you for not texting, those buttons are hard to see never mind type with. My family says I'm a geek... I am self taught in computers and kept up with the kids. They couldn't get one over on me back then. LOL
My youngest is a pistol. I think he sees my number and doesn't answer. He's just hates the phone and always texts with his friends, that's why I learned. I always get an answer now. He's in school in Tampa, about two hours away. The older one is in Hawaii and he will talk on the phone so I text him less.

LOL, I am so far from being a technology mom, I hardly even let my kids watch TV, let alone the whole cell phone and computer thing.
Now my kids are all still rather young. The oldest is 11, and it actually bothers me that some of his friends have cellphones. I see no reason for a child that age to have one. Heck, I don't even have one myself, and neither does hubby. There's just no reason for it.
Hubby and I are both on the computer a lot, but the kids aren't too much. They have computer lab in school, but when they're home, computer is as much of a treat as the TV is. I'd rather they spend their time playing or reading like kids are supposed to.

Funny - I remember those days!!
I really try to keep up with all the newest "talking" ways. I haven't been too into the text messaging but I realize I don't have much of a choice in todays world. Seems that every one basically communicates via "text".
Anyway my daughter isn't old enough yet but I am looking forward to see the ways that she communicates. I'm sure she will have a cell at a much younger age then I did. But will that be the communcation?
