As I was reading this article on Remedy I realized that as a young person I never really thought too much about getting old... wrinkles, low stamina, limited mobility and all the things that come with aging. Sure we never want to get old,and be slow or live a limited lifestyle so why not educate the young folks on aging so they can age gracefully and live longer? Do we know the reason for aging? "Age Well, Live Longer By Stacey Colino No matter what stage of life you’re in, you can be smarter, more energetic and healthier than ever before—and there are studies to prove it. So if you want to increase your longevity and make the passing years more vibrant, try effective strategies that research has shown will slow down the wear and tear of time on your body and mind...." Below are the highlights from the article, something for all of us to think about - "Feeling Rusty? Many results of aging—especially premature aging—can be attributed to the erosion caused by oxidative stress, a natural by-product of normal bodily functions such as breathing.... Stay Cool The level of chronic inflammation in your body and the rate at which your body, mind, and skin age depends on a combination of factors—some of which you cannot control at all, some you are able to modify and some for which you can take full responsibility. Modifying factors that you can do something about—smoking, stress, nutrition, exercise and medication—is well worth the effort of making changes to your everyday habits. The rewards in terms of quality of life and longevity are well documented..... The Detox Decline Your body has an amazing ability to rid itself of toxic substances, including those you ingest, breathe or are otherwise exposed to in the course of daily living. “The problem is that we’ve invented a lot of designer chemicals in plastics, pesticides and the like, which are overwhelming our natural detoxification systems,” notes Dr. Hoffman..... The Reasons We Age Why do we have to age? The short (and smart-alecky) answer: the passage of time. The longer, more truthful answer: No one really knows. What we do know is that aging is characterized by the body’s declining ability to respond to stress, maintain its natural state of internal balance (homeostasis) and fend off age-related diseases. " Here you can read the full article - http://www.remedylife.com/general/articles/content?cid=1587&ctid=2 Very well then, did you learn something about aging? I sure did. Find tips to improve you life now? later? What do you say?

I agree that we should educate the younger generations on the things they do now that will cause them problems in their advanced years. BUT, the younger generation who are feeling none of these problems now are still living in that "indestructible" bubble and many say in the back of their mind, when I'm old I'll take note of all these things, but for now I'm not hurting anything. Then you have the senior citizens whose Dr's have told them "you can't eat this and that and you can't do this and that", and they say "Why? I've done it all my life!". not even realizing that their diseases and illness are caused by eating or doing this all their life. It's really hard to make people realize that illness and disease come from a lifetime of abusing their bodies. Thank you for this very informative article, and maybe if enough of us keep harping, more people will start taking care of their bodies.

Yep we do need to keep harping! And you're right about them saying I've done this all my life. I had no idea how bad it could be when I was young. I have been caring for my mother in law for several weeks now. Boy, I hope I never have all the problems she does. I feel bad for her and she knows what she needs to do but can't make the lifestyle change.
