What do you remember of World War II?

I don't remember anything from World War II. I was not even born yet. My father was born during the war and when it ended he was six years old. He has vague memories of hunger and going down into the shelters. My grandma used to tell me stories of German air raids, bombings, famine and fear. Malta at that time was a British base and had its fair share of the burden of war. What are your memories of World War II?

I have no memories of my own about WWII. I was born just about the time that America went in to the war with Japan. My father was sent to the Philippines to fight. He did tell us some of the funnier things that happened to him. He was always giving parts of his gear and uniform away then He would be sent to get it back. He didn't talk much about the actual war or the fighting and battles. It was too difficult for him. Any thing that I know about WWII I learned from books. My grandparents have talked about how hard it was for them but being that they lived in the United States it was a piece of cake compared to some of the rest of the world. I don't think they really knew just how bad it was for those living in the countries where the war was being fought. Be kinder than necessary; for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Such a big war with so much people perishing, so much damage and so much grief. Perhaps memories of this war would prevent future wars from happening.

I also wasn't born yet but my parents lived through it and they lived in Germany when the war broke out. Since they weren't Germans but Yugoslavians, my mom's family, they got put in the prison camps and were made to work for the Germans. My mom was only 9 years old at the time and she had a sister that was 8 and a brother that was 6. Since my grandpa was shipped off when the war started, they were considered a woman and kids so they were put in camp and they worked for them. My father was a bit older by the time the war was in full swing and at the age of 16 he was shipped off to the front lines. He made it and when the war was over he was put on a ship to go to America and so was my mom's family. That is how and where my parents met, on the ship. By then my mom was 16 and my father was 23 and my mom got pregnant with my oldest sister, on the ship so they got married when they landed in Canada. My parents told me a lot of really bad stuff about the war and most of it I can't even repeat here. I don;t know how they survived with their brains intact. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good mylotting day, Chris

I was born at the end of World War 11 so there was quite a lot of talk about it while I was growing up. Even though there would have been 6 people in my family at the time, there was only two gas masks supplied. I am sure glad that my parents never had to make a decision as to who would use them. They talked about the bombs that exploded just five miles away from where we lived. I remember the food being rationed because my mum used to take me to the bakery with her when she was buying bread. She would always try to save enough coupons so that she could buy me a cream bun every Friday. That was a great treat. I never realised nor appreciated the amount of sacrifices that my parents had to make for us and I just wish they were here now so that I could repay them but I am sure a lot of people feel just the same way.

My father was a war baby so he has no memory but I remember my nan telling us about how they lived on a boat on the Thames and they were all taken for Dunkirk I think it was and how my grandad had sunk a U boat with a fishing trawler somehow. My favourite film is The Great Escape as it is based very much on what really happened there. I wasn't even a sparkle in my dads eye so have no memory at all but people were bought together and rallied round to help each other because of it all I guess and lived for the day as they didn't know whether there was going to be another one, sad. Ellie :D

I only heard stories of that from my parents and even if they were just stories I can't help but feel the terror of being into war. Yes, those shelters that they hid into were also told by my Mom. In fact there were times that I would cry while my Mom would re-tell her sad stories about my grandfather being killed during the World War II. Those are sad memories and even now that I am just typing, my eyes are already swelling in tears. War is a terrible thing. I wish we will not experience that.

The images and memories that are in my mind are those formed from movies, documentaries, books, magazines, articles, history lessons and of course the sharing of stories from my father and uncles.

All I remember about it is little things like the banners people had in their front windows, showing that they had someone in the service, and reading the war news to my grandfather, who was almost blind. My father was in the Navy, so I didn't see much of him until the war was over. I do remember being taken down the block one night by my mother to watch some kind of demonstration. I think it was to show people what the fire department and police would be doing to rescue people if there was a bombing in New York City.

Hi ronaldinu, I was born in 1939, shortly after the war started. We were not under attack and that is probably why I have almost no memories of the war. I guess I must have heard the adults talking about it because once I remember running inside when I saw a plane. Blessings.

I know I was not born during World War II and I do not remember a lot from it all I remember is what we learned in history class when we discussed it and covered the sides and the outcome of the war,I think my grandfather on my dads side fought in World War II but I am not completely sure, and I think that was the war where Hitler was trying to exterminate the Jews, and Stalin of Russia and the emperor of Japan were all trying to rule, and after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor the United States and its allies went to war and won,but I am not completely sure because it has been years since I was in school.

While most of us would not have been even born when World War Ii happened, it was a very big event as far as 20th century goes. Massive changes took place due to this war. It bought unprecedented calamities, killings, genocides, exterminations, and destruction, ending with a grave nuclear disaster by the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It has laid the ground for a number of war movies, with possibilities of even newer movies in the future.

Me either, but my father told me several times, that his parents would hide in caves in fear of attack. In my country, there has been alleged treasures remains in many many areas hidden somewhere, the Yamashita Treasure is one of them, I wish I would be able to have one piece of any of these, lol. And there are many sculptures of heroes, paintings, books written that depicts the war in this side of the planet, but sure thing is, I wasnt there to tell more, lol.

Well I am not yet in this world if it is about the world War II and I do not have any idea about it but here in Kuwait I do experience when we have the War with Iraq and I am already 26th year old and newly got married unto that time and have a child as well and it is really very hard when it is safety precaution in the place that you are looking too because there is no way unto this to have a safe place and every time when I will hear the bomb and with those fighting with the military in which it is the American and the rebel which is an Iraqi invasion to kill all of the people they would kill them all including children especially Kuwaiti like me......I do not like to have War it is very hard situation.

I don't remember World War II because I wasn't even thought about let alone born. I remember reading/studying about it in school but I couldn't give you any specifics about it. Just what I learned in the books.

We do not live in that time. So we avoid something aslo miss something. All I know about it are from books and movies. That's disaster, real big disaster. But it caused by we ourselves. Desires of man can never be fulfilled, all the wars rise with unease to desires. We need self-control.
