I don't think I've heard of it. Is it the one that smells of every bad thing you can think about?

Durian fruits can only be found in asia including singpore, vitnam, philippines, etc. It is a rare fruits with lots of big thurns all over the fruit, you cant hold it without thick gloves, it is not easy to open it if you dont know how. But if you know the technique, it is very easy for you just fallow the groove outside and then you can eat the meat inside. It is very dilicious and nutrious to some like me.

Thing like that is bearable because the taste is good and because of its rare smell and the taste is different from the usual fruit, Thats make the uniqueness of durian, and here in my country philippines, davao city is known of durian because of the good harvest during season.

I shall say it is not my favorite fruit. I don't mind the smell. I actually like the taste when it is cooked in a certain way. In my culture, people cook it in green bean soup. I love it! But I can't seem to bring myself to eat more than a few slices at a time. People in my country go on durian trips to Malaysia, just to experience eating unlimited amount of durian at its source. They will bring you to a location where there are lots of durian trees. There, you can eat as much as you like. I don't think I can do that. It's just not the type of fruit I can eat and eat without getting tired of it. They say it is quite heaty too, if you eat too much of it.

I agree with you sydney, When you eat too much you feel very warm like having a fever, especially the native durian variety that has a bitter taste. I dont like that kind of variety. I love puyat or muntong variety for it has a sweet taste and has a lot of meats inside and it does not affect your body temperature too. Thanks for responding.

I love durian! I've never gotten the terrible smell thing. To me, durian just smells like overripe fruit. What gets me about the durian is the fibrous insides -- it's hard to swallow! I don't think I could eat a whole one, but my SO and I can sit down and put a definite dent in a large fruit. Yum!

I love to eat durian with my friends at the park, we just sit down and chat while eating durian and sometimes we order more if we are not contented what we eat. If we cant consume the whole fruit we bring home the excess for it is very expensive, triple the price in regular season per kilo.

The taste is not so bad I guess, but the SMELL! Oh my goodness. I once stayed in a hotel in Vietnam where somebody decided to eat a durian in their room and the entire floor I was on stank for three days! lol. In Singapore too when you approach some of the markets, you can smell the durian way before you actually see it! And it's wrapped in plastic too! I am not a huge fan of the taste but it's OK.

Although durian smells bad, however, I like eating it. I know some people dislike it because of its terrible smelling. But I don't care about it anyway. I found an interesting fact. That is women like eating durian more than men. At my home, only my mom and I will eat this fruit. My dad and my husband dislike it. I love China

It tastes well. One thing is that it is a little bit big. Thus, it will be hard to finish it if few people eat it.

Not for me hiddenwing, i can eat one big durian fruit alone. It sound impossible but i can. I just eat it slowly, little by little and afterwards i consume the whole fruit already, wow amazing, but they say that it should not be over eaten for it has a lots of colesterol not good for the health. Eat in moderation. Thanks for sharing, happy mylotting.

I've always loved durian since the first time I tasted it. I really don't agree that the smell is unbearable. It has a strong smell but after a while you don't even notice it. I guess those who seem not to be able to bear the smell are just overacting. Anyway, i love the fruit and it is very delicious.

I'm not sure that too many Americans have really heard of it. But I have. I had a pen-pal for many years when I was younger who was from Malaysia and he told me all about it. He told me how terribly it smells! I'm not sure I could get past the smell to try it:)
