We do every year. Even though my daughter is now 18 we will be carving a pumpkin for Halloween this year. It is messy but it is not the same if we don't carve one.

I think we sometimes did when I was a kid. But now I am single with no family so I don't have any use for carving a pumkin. I dislike any kind of pumkin food so that also means no other use could be made of the pumkin innards, also.

Not this year. No place to put it. But, I love decorating for Halloween. Have to see what else I can come up with this year.

Traditions are great and makes a lot of sense even when it is so old the reason for doing it has been forgotten. We don't have pumpkin-carving traditions in my country but there are many traditions which bring us to the cemetery on Halloween and be with the dear departed. Cheers!!

We hardly ever carve a pumpkin. My son likes to take a big Sharpie marker to his pumpkins. They last a lot longer than if you carve them. Once we had a pumpkin that was rotten by Halloween. Sorry that some jerk added his nastiness to your post. Hopefully it will be deleted soon and your post otherwise left in tact.

I don't think we'll be carving a pumpkin this year. I'll be doing what I usually do for Hallowe'en, and going to a friend's place to get drunk and hand out candy. We won't have a pumpkin, but we will have a ghoulish decoration on the porch attached to a speaker, and my friend and I are going to swcare the kids by cackling into the microphone directly attached to the speaker inside the ehoul's head.

In recent years rather than carving a pumpkin I just painted a face on the outside because we like to use our Halloween pumpkin for homemade pie. It is not quite the same as carving it, but the pie making is ceremonial.

My 9-year-old son and I carve pumpkins every year. We enjoy it so much that, even though there's only two of us in the house, our front steps are covered in carved pumpkins. We do about 6-8 every year and try to be as original and creative as we can be. If you have a yard, it's a great and fun idea to spend a little extra one year to get a "perfect size" pumpkin. Once you've gutted it, seperate the seeds, wash them and dry them. Store them in an air tight container til spring. Let the seeds sit in water for 24 hours, then plant them in your own garden. Now you'll have your own abundance of pumpkins without spending another penny.
