God, I can't stand these "Miracle Cure" people.

I feel the need to vent, so bear with me, folks. Recently I was diagnosed with symptomatic gall stones. For those of you who don't know, gall stones are hardened calcium or cholesterol deposits in the gall bladder - an organ which helps you digest food. They're symptomatic because they cause me a great deal of pain and discomfort. The primary treatment for gallstones is surgery. Unfortunately for me, my health insurance may not cover it, and I'm looking at paying probably $2,000 to have the procedure done. This is not what's irritating me though. What's driving me crazy is my parents. You see, my parents are "miracle cure" folks. They're the type of people that come across some sort of mineral/vitamin/health food that they believe can cure EVERYTHING. With my parents, their cure all is coconuts (*face palm*). They've been trying to tell me NOT to trust the trained doctors with PHD's in medicine, and instead follow their advice and change my diet and eat more coconut supplements. They keep telling me if I eat better, they'll pass and everything will be A*Okay. Newsflash - passing gallstones is generally looked upon as a bad thing, because if they get stuck in the tracts between the gall bladder and intestines, they'll cause a really bad infection. Passing gallstones = bad. Regardless of what I try to tell them, they insist that the doctors are just trying to squeeze money out of me, and that their little miracle cure will actually help. Look, I'm not stupid. I know that some of these "miracle cures" may have some health benefits to them, but they can not cure everything. It's easy enough to tell a person who's in pain that this cheap little cure all will make them feel all better - but I'm not an IDIOT. I'll but the advise of my well trained, well educated, doctors before the advice of people who have no formal training in medicine, nor any clue about the medical problem they're talking about. Is there anyone else who knows people like my parents? People that will swear up and down their little miracle cure will make it all better, no matter how far fetched it sounds to a reasonable person?

Well if you can well afford the operation that the trained doctors are offering then why not follow them with your hearts delight. Well I guess your parents are just concerned about you and there's nothing else in there that is wrong. If you still do not believe their stand then go on your own way the way you think is best for you. If you think this is not for you I guess you just tell your parents that you are opting for the operation and you can very well afford the operation. I guess by doing that you will silence you parents from advising you otherwise.
