Can someone tell me about Astral Projection?

I was under the impression that astral projection was projecting of the spiritual self outside the physical body. Basically, as a spirt one could travel anywhere whereas the body is limited by the rules of space and time. That would include travel around the world as well as travel to other dimensions. Perhaps that is where this astral planet is? As for how to do it, from what I understand it is incredibly difficult and needs to be worked up to. First, connect with your spirit, allow it to leave your body and then get farther and farther away. It's also dangerous if not done properly. There have been reports (obviously, anecdotal) of people leaving their body and not returning. One method of trying to astral project is to meditate, focusing on the blackness of your eyes, until you begin to feel light. Then allow yourself to exit your body.
