I really wish I could post a video or something to go with this one, because I have to try and explain it to you and hope that you get the funniness of it! Last night, hubby and I were in the kitchen when we noticed a huge spider on the floor, hubby had to be the hero and rescue me, and so he put a cup over the spider and went to scoop it up. Unfortunately it was dead so one of us must have stamped on it by accident, anyway, as he threw that one outside I caught sight of something on the kitchen wall up the top. To my horror I realised it was an even BIGGER spider, it was GINORMOUS, I quickly pointed it out and hubby not really keen on rescuing me from this one reluctantly went over to it armed with his plastic beaker. He had to climb up onto the side to scoop it into the cup and he was up there on the side and he scooped the huge monster into the cup and went to tip it down into the cup and put a piece of paper over the rim to stop it escaping. Only the spider was not to be fooled and quick as a flash bolted up and out of the cup, it ran straight towards hubbys hand and for a few minutes there ensued a terrifying battle of man trying to frantically get the huge spider away from his arm and back into the cup. I was crying laughing, and it was made worse by the girly squeals that hubby omitted every time spider went too near his arm! He eventually managed to get it partially in the cup and jumped off the side squealing, and ran with it towards the window. The spider still trying to escape was aiming to run at my hubby who quickly tipped the whole thing out of the window, beaker and all! I swear I nearly wet myself laughing, if only I had been able to capture it on video, the kids came into the kitchen to see what was going on, they thought it was ME squealing! Have you ever had any horrible beastie run at you like this? How do you get rid of spiders in your house?

I have a fantastic mental image of all this. My son, who is 6'4" and weighs 285-290, is afraid of bees, for some reason. Every time he even hears buzzing, he squeels like a little girl. That in itself is funny. Here, we have these huge water bugs. The other morning, I went in to make coffee. Something scampered across my foot, and I screamed as I ran down the hallway. Hubby jumped up to see what all the commotion was about. The bug had followed me into the hall. I was darting one way then the other, trying to get away from this bug. Hubby kept yelling, Well, move and I will get him! Where was I supposed to go? Every time I moved that darned thing lunged at me. Hubby finally got a napkin and was able to pick the monster thing up. Hubby and son were both laughing at me.....until the bug crawled out of the napkin, fell to the floor and lunged at my son. Talk about a girly squeel, my son let one out that probably woke the neighbors. That to me was pretty funny, watching this big man running around the kitchen squeeling. We finally got him into the trash can and out side.

Oh how funny! You just gave me a fantastic mental image too, even though I only have a vague idea of what a water bug looks like! Brilliant, my eldest was chased by a big spider the other day too, I wonder if the bugs are fed up of us squishing them and are starting to fight back!!!

Well, some call a water bug a roach, but the ones we have are much bigger than most roaches. And, yeah, I do wonder sometimes if they will attack intentionally. It is kind of scary if you think too much about it, though. I don't want those things taking over!

HI gemini, When I am reading this post, I am imagining I am watching a comedy show..LOL! That is really very funny...LOL! Anyway, I am not scared of a spider and I can afford to kill it but I will be jumping off and be hysterical when they will touch my skin, LOL! I have tried to witness like that before but it was a cockroach,,,again I am not scared of cockroach as long as they will not start to fly...They were 5 of them in the bathroom of the apartment we were renting, my roommate were shouting very hard inside so, we checked her there, the cockroaches also maybe were alarmed and scared, I do know, they were also flying all over the place and everyone there was running back and forth just to escape from those yukkky insects...We were soo tired after and they managed to crawl and vanished!

Thank god I never had such close encounter. We don't suffer spider attacks here in my country. Usually we are invaded by ants. We try to spray at least once every year before summer comes to avoid these insects from coming.

I do not mind one little ant, but a whole family of them is a different matter, and the flying ones are horrrrrible.

EEK I hate spiders and shriek at the sign of them. I'm too scared to even get close to them so it always has to be my husband that gets rid of them. If he isn't around then that spider doesn't have much time to live. I throw a shoe at it or something to kill it before even going near it. I'm really scared of spiders.

I am giggling over here. I can just imagine a grown man screaming like a girl, how funny. We don't get really big spiders here, and the ones I do see I leave alone because they catch flies, mosquitos, and other bugs that may get in the house. Of course if I saw a really big spider I'd probably kill it. I'm fine with daddy long legs, but other spiders sort of freak me out, because I know there are some deadly spiders, none around here to my knowledge, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It was funny, and how he did not fall off the side and do himself a mischief I do not know. I could not leave it in the house, I would never sleep at night, I would imagine it coming up the stairs and thinking it might quite like a bed for the night.

Haha! My kid and I are not fans of creepy crawlies either..or things that fly for that matter.. We tend to squeal or run around like girlies first If it's something that flies, I open the window and hope it will fly out before I have to assist it to. If it's a spider, I tend to try and swat it with the sandal at the earliest opportnity as my tot will not go in that room otherwise..

That was so I hate spiders. we also been having a lot of problems with spiders. As long as they stay outside and not in the house. If I see a spider in the house I usually call up a pest control to come to spray.

What a hoot your story is! Congratulations on doing such a fine job of relating it too. I'm not a spider fan either, though I must say that one thing that scares me more is a centipede or millepede---OMG, those things creep me out! I see that no one has responded to your question about keeping spiders out. I recently heard on TV, that putting eucalyptus branches in corners or other areas where spiders like to hang out will make them feel unwelcome and they will choose other accomodations. I live in cold country and bug season is about over, but you can bet that my home will be liberally decorated with eucalyptus by Spring! I use them in my dried floral arrangements anyway, so I have them on hand, but for those who don't craft, they are readily available in floral and craft departments by the bunch. I figure- what can I lose with this idea? I get rid of spiders, plus I get the benefit of the great aroma the eucalyptus emits. Sounds like win/win to me. Smiles, ink

Well I have never heard of that, but thanks it is something I will definately try. I get a lot of spiders in the house and they seem to be getting bigger and bigger.

Oh if you had of videod it you would be getting £250 for a clip of it on that funny tv programme can't think of its name. I am laughing now at the the image of it all. I am pretty god with spiders, I met many this afternoon on my shed clearing out mission and usually if I find in house will put out as my son doesn't like them without the squaels LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

Thank you for this wonderful laugh. This would NEVER happen in my house. My husband would try to shoot it with a handgun (this has happened) or use the Raid AND a lighter to kill it (this has also happened). Spiders don't bother me. I will save them from the wrath of my arachnaphobe husband. Using the same methods as your husband, minus all the girly screaming. That scene that you describe has played in my head as if it happened here.. it was very funny!

That is hilarious!! I feel sorry for your husband though, being a spider hater it couldn't have been nice for him!! If they are big spiders and I'm feeling brave I will squish them, if I'm not feeling brave then I just get on the sofa and stay there until it has gone somewhere where I cant see it!! If its a small one I do tend to leave them, I can cope with these ones and as long as they stay away from me, then they can roam around the house!

Wow, that must have been quite a sight. I guess since I had a son who was fascinated with bugs, I'm not as afraid of them as I once was. And when he was a teen, he had pet rats, so I'm not as afraid of rodents either. My son and I used to live out in the country where critters were more of a problem. Now, I hardly see even an ant.

This sounds hilarious!!lol Spiders and creepy crawlies don't really bother me, living alone you just get used to dealing with them as you have nobody else to do it for you, fortunately i haven't come across one so intent on attacking me as the one you and your hubby had! hehe xxx

That is hilarious! I can't say I've ever had this happen with a spider. They don't bother me too much unless they are really big & hairy! But, I live in S. Florida where there are palmetto bugs. Have you ever SEEN these monsters? They are huge flying roaches! They are soooo gross. And about the time you try to kill them, they start flying and you can't get them! EWWWWW There's nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night and hearing one of them crawling along and you can't find them. As soon as you turn on the light, they quickly go into hiding. So, you turn the light off and try to go back to sleep, only to hear them come back out again! Thank goodness I found affordable pest control so we don't see many of them anymore!
