This is a question that a girlfriend asked me the other day and it really made me think. I think that it depends on the situation and the family dynamic. What do you think?

I think that Stepparents should have rights. I'm a stepmother and have been ever since she was 9 months old. I'm her mother figure and she respects me in that way. If she needs to be taken to the doctor and her father can't that leaves me to take her. If she is hurt under my care and needs to be seen by someone I'm the one to take her. If I can take full responsibility for her then yes i should have rights to her.

Of course they have. No matter what they are, parents or steparents, I think they can exert their legal rights, especially when children are with new family. you can supervise them, talk to them, help them, even ask them to do things for you. You are not suposed to ask them do things beyond them. As steparents, besides using your rights, you should communicate more with children, understand them more, respect them more.
