Sleeping for longer stretches at night.

My daughter and I have a bedtime that happens without fail every night. She is only 2.5 months old but was already sleeping for 5 or more hrs. at night, which was considered sleeping through the night. This week she has started getting up 2 or 3 times. Has any other parent experienced this? I was thinking it was just a little phase she is going through. I was expecting her to be sleep so long at such a young age so I am not upset by it at all. Just wondering if other parents could offer their input.

The first thing that comes to mind is that she may be going through a growth spurt. They tend to want to eat more often when that happens so sometimes their sleep patterns change a little. I'm sure you won't have to wait too long for things to settle back down again. I am going through this with my 6 month old daughter. She has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 months old, and I mean almost 12 hours straight every night! The last week she has been waking up in the early morning some time to eat and then goes right back to sleep. I hope your daughter settles back down quickly for you!

Thanks for that. I have heard about the growth spurts, didn't think about that.

My youngest is 9 months old now and I went through this same thing with her. After some time she did stop waking up 3 and 4 times a night but did continue with 1 or 2 wake ups a night off and on until she got about 6 months old. I think you are right about it being a phase she is at the point when she will be getting a lot bigger in the next few months so she may just be getting hungry more often with her impending growth.
