Can anyone recommend a good book to read?

I need a new book to read and I would like to know what other people have read recently and think is a must-read or even just a good read.
I don't like books that can begin to get very predictable but I'm open to all categories of books. A page turner, or a book that really keeps my attention to the point that I just can't put it down.

Try to read Sidney Sheldon,
her novels are par excellence...
too much suspense present there to feed the reader till satisfaction..
you cant guess the ending.

Well right now I am reading kind of an older book, but one that I am not sure of how popular it is. I myself, as well as my fiance, can stand by it and say that it's such a great book. It's entitled The Emigrants, and well is only the first in a series of four books. Emigrants is spelled as such because of it's author and the characters, who are both Swedish. It's about the immigration to America and the trials before and after. Vilhelm Moberg is the author.
