Pakistan

Hi MyLotters, My name is Kashan Jafri. I live in Pakistan and I am a 17 year old MUSLIM. A few days ago I saw a discussion about Muslims that they all are terrorists, rude, war-lovers e.t.c. I don't think such issues should be raise on this type of communities like MyLot. I never responded to this type of discussions which contained religious issues. But if questions are raised, they should be answered and it is the right of us (Muslims) to answer them. I will try my best to satisfy you people, please feel free to ask any question you have about MUSLIMS or ISLAM...

Hi my friend! I'm living on a Muslim country. However, Muslim is not the only race here, we have three main race living together in this small piece of land. The question i would like to ask is, if someone get married to a Muslim, is it COMPULSORY for that person to convert to Muslim too? Is it mention in the holy book? If a person was converted to Islam, can they ever leave it?Or they are tied to it fro the rest of their life? I don't mean to offends anyone here, I'm just asking this because of curiosity. In my country, i think they force people to do so and i don't think they get it right from the holy book. I just want to know is it a must from the holy book or it's just what the government here set it for their own good.

Yes, it's true that a muslim man can only marry a muslim woman or convert a non-muslim woman to muslim. Please read out the whole content below for complete information. It is stated in the Holy Book. In Quran (Holy Book), 60-Surah Mumtahinah, Ayay 10, it is stated that: "O you who believe! when believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them, Allah knows best as to their faith, then if you ascertain that they are true believers, send them not back to the disbelievers, they are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them. But give the disbelievers that (amount of money) which they have spent (as their Mahr) to them. And there will be no sin on you to marry them if you have paid their Mahr to them. Likewise hold not the disbelieving women as wives, and ask for (the return of) that which you have spent (as Mahr) and let them (the disbelievers, e.t.c) ask back for that which they have spent. That is the judgement of Allah. He judges between you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise" For more ayahs of the same surah : http://noblequran.com/translation/surah60.html * MAHR - Mahr is a gift, mandatory in Islam, given by the groom to the bride upon Like a kind of appreciation and guarantees for the woman marriage in Islamic Culture. For more details about Mahr : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/mahr

A good Muslim is normally supposed to marry a Muslim. However, in some cases a Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish (People of Book) woman who believe in One God and have tolerance towards Islam. If she comes to Islam it is great indeed, It is not compulsory to convert to Islam for her. Marrying from other religions is prohibited. A Muslim woman is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man. When one of a non-Muslim couple comes to Islam, they can continue their relationship if they want. Come to Islam only willingly, one can leave Islam.

Thank you for answering my question. Really appreciate it. I don't know why others tried to make people misunderstood about religion things, not only for Muslim but also other religion. No religion will force someone to join, we all accept people who by heart willingly to join and trust the God. Agree?

I actually have no questions for you. It is common sense to know that of course not ALL muslims are terrorists. As with any race or religion...there are good and not so good people. What we all are is HUMAN.

Many people especially from US, don't know about Islam or Muslims, they just know what they hear from mainstream news, from the priests and from rumours. It created in their mind an idea of Islam that it is like a monster. If American school teach about different religions in the world in brief in an unbiased manner would benefit to newer generations. See the following : funny comment A world-wide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was : "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?" The survey was a huge failure because:- In Africa they didn't know what "food" means. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" means. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" means. In China they didn't know what "opinion" means. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" means. In South America they didn't know what "please" means. In the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" means. :)

in this forum at many discussion i have found muslims behave rather rudely and sometimes getting abusive. but no one had branded entire muslims as what you claim to. looks like these questions are generally raised by muslims themselves to create unhealthy discussions here. others are merely responding to these questions depending on what they have experienced or seeing around.
