Umm...martial law in America? CRAP.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/09/24/army/index.html "Why is the U.S. army assigned to the 'Homeland'" I find this particularly suspicious in light of the current national mood of, and I'm quoting the mainstream here, "Mild panic". It mentions police militarization at the GOP convention, and as some of you will probably note I've created two discussions on that. And update on that is that the ACLU and other groups have gotten all charges against the journalists to be dropped and now there's an investigation going on to analyze wrong doing...though most of us don't expect for anything to come of it other than: "All charges were dropped, what more do you want?" (Which is WRONG, considering they were wrongfully arrested in the first place and that the police actions violated the constitution and technically in extension this entire country's liberty). But again, the larger topic here is the huge looming potential for martial law now. While as this article accurately notes, there was potential for that before, it's seriously closer to us now...no pun intended, of course. While I also don't advocate the scenarios of Bush canceling the elections, or that a single brigade could effectively oppress all of America either, I acknowledge how some people may feel and what they may think on those...potential scenarios. What I'm focusing on, is what this might mean. My hackles are seriously raised over this. What do you guys all think?

In the scheme of things, myLot is a tiny community. Still, if you look at all the posts, you see a lot of fear and hatred, as well as scary misinformation. That can, indeed, lead to martial law as a reaction to the fearmongers. Multiply it and the nation becomes a hotbed for reactionaries, who persuade others to back their bizarre plans. Remember Hitler? That's how he got so much power. Too strong and horrifying? Get a DVD of the old movie "Dr. Strangelove". Then get active. Spread th truth!!!

Oh, I know how slippery a slope we're on, dear. Crisis opens up the possibility for so many unpleasant things...and since we're walking out on this slope, it's hard to say what exactly will happen. It doesn't help me much that Bush is the guy who's made so many of these things that violate everything that keeps us free here, his reaching for fascism. I mean...that guy's not a genius, he's not even that dastardly. He's like this big goofy kid! I understand there's alot of people with their own shadowy interests around him, his 'friends'...but every now and again, it feels so hard to grasp for the pure "WTF"-ness about it. I prefer to think that this is laid down for the next President. But that's even worse than the idea of Bush setting this all up to play King for himself, because it feels even more like conspiracy. Because, if you yourself aren't going to use this...power you've granted to someone in your position, then why do it at all? Anyway, that's why I'm building up a blog, dearie. I do talk about stuff like this all the time. It's just amazing. (In general) The internet community's been talking about this a decent amount...and with people scared like they are, I'm sure this will spread a decent amount into offline life too. Not as much as we'd like, with the mainstream media completely glossing over it...but as long as some know, and as long as most reject the very idea (which I feel confident that most will at least with the present circumstances)...then I won't let myself worry too much. I'll keep my eyes peeled and keep talking and lets hope others do the same, eh?

Well, we'll just have to do our best dearie. So far, in the two years I've been talking...I've gotten a fairly steady stream of viewings for my words. And now more steady readers as well. It takes some time, lots of work, and doing, but my own example tells me all our efforts will reach some minds that need to know that there are real dangers out there now to parts of their lives they thought would never be endangered. And these minds, a few of them at least, will speak as well. As long as some of us doggedly continue to talk about real issues, ESPECIALLY ones like these...then, we'll get to a better point than we would've otherwise, I know it. My secret hope though, is that beyond all of this we'll end up with the peace we want.

You've certainly earned the Medal of Freedom, but never accept it from a president who's a front for the insidious forces of destruction of all we hold dear. You and I put out a lot of words. We have to get others to listen, and to speak up, too! Bush doesn't have to be smart as long as he draws to himself the people who do know what they can do to undermine our freedoms for their own profit!

As long as they have no law enforcement or combat role then this is far from a precendence. As your link points out, federal troops have deployed to many state side disaster and other emergency situations. I was part of disaster recovery operations in Florida for Hurricane Andrew myself. The danger here won't be the assignment of an Active Duty unit to Northcom, but if a president chooses to order that unit to be used beyond Posse Commitas laws or the Constitution. A president won't be able to do that single-handedly though, since the status of Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces doesn't authorize any president to violate US laws, the US Constitution or the Constitutions of the states. Congress and the government of the state effected would have ample opportunity to prevent violations. There is a lot a president can order our military to do overseas, but stateside a lot of hands are tied.

But executive orders only apply to the Executive Branch. Congress and the Supreme Court are under no obligation to comply. Also, even if Bush (or any other president) tried, Congress has the authority to vote down any Executive Order they choose. Also the Supreme Court has the authority to strike down any law, policy, regulation or executive order they choose. There are a lot of safeguards against this kind of conspiracy theory. Not saying that it is absolutely impossible, but all three branches of the federal government and each effected state government, as well as We the People would all have to comply.

I just have a slight paranoia since he has such a tendency of disregarding the rules and alot of those people in charge of the safegaurds tends to be kinda...willing to just stand back. I'm not even saying martial law will happen soon, or within our lifetimes. I'm just saying the potential is disconcerting. The fact that it HAS potential to be that, isn't supposed to happen in this country.

Um, unfortunately that's the problem Para. Bush signed an executive order awhile back saying he could authorize them to do things within the United States...and the article itself stated that it said one of the reasons they're there is if "civil unrest" occurs. Nevermind that, that shouldn't be legal...or constitutional...but yeah. You're quite right though, the real danger is if the President should order them to violate posse comitatus.

I would not put it past the Bush Administration one bit and I am only keeping it among myself but I feel like Im in preparation mode and I do think Bush would go so far as to declare "THREAT" just to continue himself in office because they have a lot of fun projects going on behind the curtain, heck, maybe they'll claim and alien invasion and it will turn into Star Wars (such a genius he is, love those movies)--would not doubt it one bit.

this bailout could only work in their favor where they can tweak the market whenever they want. the effects will be loss of civil rights and that will be a sad day, in the bible is says there is only fear and love and man is fear so destructive. My boyfriend was telling me all about the riots outside of the GOP convention and he was saying that he did not hear about it but once and thought it was strange and CNN showed a brief clip of the protest. I did not see it and when he mentioned it I just assumed it would come up eventually but Im still waiting and with the McCain campaign campaing seeking all this special treatment and bending the rules and using even the debate as a tactic--its looking more and more like dictatorship

I'll agree with you that Bush's administration's been leaning extremely toward fascist and increasingly so as it's gone on. And even though I know the current bailout plan would only be too lovely to them, giving them complete control over the people (pretty much)...I don't think they really understand how bad that plan would effect this country. Primarily, it'd lead to the destruction of the dollar...which'd mean total system collapse. So yeah, I wouldn't put it past them either. They're enough to make all of us who keep up with everything plenty paranoid, heh. You're not the only one who's been worried about the elections. Well, didn't Bush say once he wanted to build space stations on the moon so he could shoot at aliens? O_o I thought he did once. Last summer, I think... I don't know, I partially think Cheney's the real mastermind...but that's just me. _ ^_^'

Oh defiantely, Cheney is like a Phantom but surely he is still hard at work being Bush's puppetmaster like a Mad Scientist. Where the h--l is this guy??! But now im feeling like its leaking into the actual campaining where McCain and Palin are looking like little Puppets with McCain fighting for all that the Bush Admin is all about even while he shouts reform and Palin, everything about her doesnt make sense, where did she come from?

I read several articles yesterday that have the crap scared out of me. Here's one: http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1141.htm There were also several on RIA Novostii that state that Russian Intelligence (FSB) predicts that around October 5th, Bush will declare a 'financial emergency'. Martial law will be declared on October 7th. Around the tenth the elections will be cancelled.

That's a handy page of links there -- and now that I know where to look on possible new tidbits, I'll be able to find more. Thank you for the informations. Well, while I'm cautious on setting dates for bad events, I will indeed keep my eyes wide open on this one. No use turning blind just because it's my habit to stay skeptical. Ria Novsti tends to be fairly reliable, though I'll double check a few things. If I find anything new I'll message you, aye?

My yahoo and msn messenger is the same as my identity here (without the 1). I have planned to move to Canada in November, but that may not be possible now.
