In the year 2018

YouTube was created 3 1/2 years ago as I write this. Feb 2005 Google, just over 10 years ago in 1998 Ebay, 13 years ago 1995 the same year as Craigslist AOL, America OnLine began in 1983. A lot has changed on the internet in 25 years. But the last 10 years have had outrageous growth in traffic and services provided online. So, time to stretch your creative muscles a bit. How do you think the internet will grow and change in the NEXT 10 years? Or even the next 5, for those of you that follow the Mayan calender? What do you think will be the next youTube? Will anything ever replace YouTube? Or is it here to stay?

It's hard to imagine what site will be able to become more popular than YouTube. I'm sure it will happen one day, but I just find it hard to imagine what that website will be all about when that happens. You know what though? I can see the way we use the internet drastically changing in the next few years. The reason I believe that is because of something I recently read about that is being developed and is set to be commercially released in 2014. Have you ever seen any episodes of Star Trek? There's a piece of technology they have called the holodeck. Well apparently a corporation in Japan I believe is actually working on a device that is said to work just like a holodeck. They're calling it the Cocoon I think. This was a real article too and it appeared on CNN.com Like if they made Amazon or eBay fully 3D, the article says how you could "walk through" the sites. They would be set up like traditional stores with aisles and all that for you to look for whatever it is you want to buy. So if this hopefully does come to pass, it is safe to say the internet will be in for a drastic change in the next ten years.

That is amazing. Funny, when I you mention Star Trek, I think of Kirk and Spock. But i have seen some of the newer series and I have seen the Holodeck. That would be pretty cool. and expensive! But the way chips and bandwidth capacities are growing today it could very well happen. I was just reading some more about YT and they said that in 2007, YT was using as much bandwidth as the entire internet in 2000. And that 13 hours of video are uploaded every minute. They spend over a million dollars a day on bandwidth. More than 3 Billion hits a month. Not bad for a less than 4 year old site.

Something to replace YouTube? What about LiveTube? You can post videos live to other people, and videos that aren't live. Maybe even holographic videos if computers advance enough, but in 10 years it's highly doubtful. :P Other than that, I don't see anything coming that could replace YouTube...maybe my website (work in progress) will outdo it, but I can assure you that MySpace NEEDS to be replaced, because people around the world are becomming too obsessed with it.
