It was with great sadness that I heard about the death of actor Paul Newman this morning. As an actor he was outstanding in his field, but that was only part of his appeal. He was also a great humanitarian and received many honors for his charitable work. He was also noted for his racing enthusiasm. I grew up watching many of his films. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof remains one of my all-time favorites to this day. I suppose you could say that he was one of the finest Action Movie stars of his day. He was also a devoted family man and his marriage to actress Joanne Woodward was one of the longest in an industry where partners change on a frequent basis. I was aware of his battle with cancer for some time now. He was 83 years old and lived a full and rewarding life. My condolonces go out to his family.

It seems like this year has been a bad year for losing great stars, Heath Ledger, Brad Renfro and now Paul Newman an exceedingly sad loss indeed, didn't he put his name on seafood sauce in the shops too! He certainly made his mark and his outstanding performance in the disaster movie Earthquake, he will always be fondly remembered. 83! Blimey I didn't realize he was that old, least he got to live to a decent age my friend, which is some consolation!

So true, wolfie, and I think the quality of his life was simply the best. He put his name on several food items that has grown tremendously and all of the proceeds go to charity! That's so wonderful.

It seems like we are losing all the best actors which shouldn't be surprising because they are all getting to be pretty old. Paul Newman wasn't just a great actor he was also a great humanaterian. He set his food line up to go to charities. Some one ask about heroes for children today. He is one to be looked up to because of the way he lived his life. His acting was great but not the number one thing in his life. My favorite move is "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". 'Be kinder than necessary; for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

That was a great movie, deebomb, and I fell in love with the song from it. You are right, though, he was so much more than just another actor.

I am really saddened.A part of me is dying with these legends like Charlton Heston and now Paul.I just love this Greek god with his blue eyes.Butch Cassidy and Sun dawn's kid zooms out in front of my eyes. The world is becoming empty fast with the loss of these idols.

It does seem that so many of the truly great ones are leaving us, balasri. I am left to wonder if we have any to replace them.

I believe his memory will live on. Paul Newman did a great deal of good for many people and I know I will not soon forget his philanthropic ways. I wish other celebrities would follow in his footsteps!

I believe that some are trying, WindWhisked, but it is hard to live up to someone of his stature.

Yes, I heard this news! It's a real shame that he has gone. I really liked him as an actor. My favourite film was and still is "Towering Inferno" with him starring as an architect. That was a great movie and he played the part well working alongside other major players of that time: Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astair and Richard Chamberlain. I don't know much about his personal life but I will always picture him as being the man that he was in "Towering Inferno". Andrew

Paul Newman was excellent dramatic character at his time. I also saw some of movies of him. yah he was the finest action movie stars of his day. His wife Joanne Woodward who is his wife was also a good figure in the film industry. My commiserations also go out for his family.

HI world, Paul Newman, NO!! Not him too! This is not good news. I dearly love watching his movies. Cool Hand Luke was awesome, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was unbelievably good too for a Western. Such a good looking man, devote husband to Joanne, good humanatarian in general. He will be dearly missed. Have you tried his food line? Very good stuff, the best is the donations from sales that go to charity. Awesome man!! Have a nice day world..
