Songs in general are word that tell a story or a statement with then accompanied by various musical instruments. We hear songs everyday but what makes it stick to your head, was is just the lyric had meanings in your life or the melody haunts you or you just basically love the persons who sings it?

It depends. Sometimes I'll hear a song with a beat that I like and then I try to find out what song it is. Other times I listen to a song and fall in love with the lyrics. If the lyrics are about something that I can relate to then I am more likely to remember the lyrics. There are some songs that I might not be able to relate to but I just love the artist so I like the song. There are a lot of Sean Paul songs that I might not be able to relate to but I still like because the beats are good so I like his music.
I also listen to Indian music. I don't speak Hindi (although I can understand a little) but I can still remember the lyrics. If I like how the song sounds then I listen to it and remember it.

The melody is the one which would make me first recognize the music, but the lyrics is gonna be the one which would make me like the song/music. Because melody is the attraction but the lyrics gave it the meaning of the music/song and that is why I like the lyrics more than I like the melody, though the melody is as important as well as the lyrics because without it no one would get interested to listen to the music.

I have to like the way the song sounds, so definitely the melody. The lyrics can enhance the pleasure of the song for sure. Some songs that I've liked that don't say much, "Hermans Hermits - Henry The 8th", "sam the sham and the pharaohs 'wooly bully'", "My baby does the hanky panky by Tommy James and the Shondelles",ect. But if the melody is catchy, then I'm hooked.
