Flights

Flights are a quick way to travel long distances. I don't find the seat comfortable because it doesn't have much leg room. I always try to get a window seat so I can enjoy the view on take off and landing. Once I flew over Sydney Harbor and saw the opera house as well as the harbor bridge. I flew on a small plane in the Maldives and saw a the reef and islands on the way to Gan. The best view I have ever got was the pyramids when I flew home from Kenya. Wow! I have flown around the world and to New Zealand with stops in the South Pacific Islands. The airline industry is changing due to the high cost of fuel and the expensive air fares maybe put some people off traveling. I would really like to decide where I am going in 2009. Have you been to a flight or some flights? If so did you see a nice view from the plane? Would you like to fly off somewhere in 2009? Where?

Airline seats in economy class have hardly any legroom. Maybe your dad could sit by the emergency exit in order to have more space.

I have been on a few flights, but I usually like to sit by the isle. I have seen the Greek islands on a perfect sunny and clear day. That was beautiful. I have seen my house from a plane. That was nice. The best memory is seeing Chicago though. The skyline was beautiful and it was so nice to see all the suburbs. Tiny small blue square pools in row after row.

Sounds nice :-) Everyone should travel a bit by plane. It all looks so peaceful and nice from up there. Seeing the clouds from up above is very nice by the way. And to see cities by night. Or seeing a plane flying below mine.

Hi Teison. The Greek Islands must have looked stunning in the sunshine. It must have been excellent the time you saw your own house. You really had a great view of Chicago and its suburbs. The swimming pools look so tiny from the air. In my home country the fields look like a patchwork quilt.

Hi Maxi. I have taken flights, long distances and short distances too. The most impressive beautiful view for me was when flying over the Swiss Alps. Oh, that was really amazing view. Yes, I had a window seat on that flight !

Hi Green Line. It is excellent that you have flown long and short distances. My longest flights have been Singapore to London and London to Hong Kong, 14 hours. You were lucky to see the Swiss Alps from your window seat.

I love flying! I have flown to most US states, including Hawaii. (Never been to Alaska - yet.) I've flown to Puerto Rico, too. I've been on large planes and small commuter ones. I've even flown in a helicopter. That's an awesome experience. As I said, I love flying, but my favorite adventures have been cruises - to the Caribbean. This year probably won't include much traveling. But, then again, I wouldn't rule it out.

I've been on a plane 4 times. I try to get a window seat if possible because I love looking out at the scenery. I don't fly often because I usually I drive, but I will say that flying is enjoyable. I've only flown domestic flights, but the last time I got to fly into Washington DC for a lay over. I never been to the capital, but seeing it from the air was amazing.

I have flown three times this year, two long haul and one short haul. If I'm travelling by myself I have to sit in the aisle as I feel claustrophobic otherwise. Hopefully I'll be off to the US next year on a one way ticket. Also I'm hoping to go to Las Vegas for my honeymoon.

Flight seats are uncomfortable. I don't like how close I am to the next person; there is no space. My views are usually nothing but clouds. I would like to travel to Canada or the Caribbean sometime in 2009.

Hello dear maximax. I have been in a flight for three times from Shanghai to Ganzhou for one time and another time from Hangzhou to Guangzhou and from Guangzhou to Ganzhou. I prefer to take a flight, mainly because of the convenience and being so fast to go from one place to another, but the fee is much more expensive than to travel by train. So most of the times I still travel by train and bus. I am not sure yet whether I will fly off somewhere in 2009, but it is also fun to travel by plane. I love to sit beside the window as well for a good view of the outside. Good day to you, friend.

Well, because I'm short, only 145 cm or about 4'9", the leg room for most long-distance planes is enough for me he he he...BUT I prefer sitting on the aisle seat if it's a long-distance flight due to my bladder. I drink a lot and go to the toilet a lot and if I sit next to the window, I don't feel good about having to go to the toilet over and over again, esp. if the person on the aisle seat is sleeping!!! I don't know if I want to fly somewhere in 2009, but I'm going to fly back to my home country Indonesia next month. I'm REALLY excited. My hubby and I will also visit Singapore for a few days for another honeymoon. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!!! ;-D So far I've only been to Singapore and Finland and now I live in Finland. :-))))

Hi With oil price increasing the air tickets are getting costlier. You have given a very good picture of sights you have seen from above. I have seen Himalayas while flying from Kolkata to New Delhi. It was really marvelous and the picture is very vivid in my mind. Thank you for starting this beautiful topic. Best wishes Partha

I will fly any time, anywhere (as long as someone else is paying). In the early '80s I worked for TransWorld (TWA) and regularly got a class 5 pass (free) for wherever I wanted to go. I always volunteer for an exit row. I can operate the escape door on most planes and there's 10" more legroom.

Hi,maximax8.I remember you once said that you are a teacher.I became a teacher this month and heard of that our school often hold the teachers to travel.I know you have visited many countries,so I wonder that Did your school pay for your travel? If you have not decided where you will go in 2009,I invite you come to China. There are 56 nations live in this beautiful place, and our chinese are friendly. I would like to go to Malaysia next year, because I have two vacations one year now and I have began to earn money.Although my salary is not high, but I think it will not take me much money to go to a country which is such close to China.

I have a huge fear of flying. I can't handle flying more than 1 hour and even then its still really really hard for me to not be nervous! The longest flight I've taken was to Cancun which was I thin about 5 hours and I was a wreck the entire time!! I wish I could relzx and enjoy it I'd love to travel more often but I just can't

I have been on some incredible flights. Mostly good, but some pretty miserable. It once took me 36 hours to fly to Tokyo when it was originally supposed to take me 11 hours. Obviously I did not spend the whole time in the air but there were many weather delays, missed flights, etc...Airports can be extremely frustrating places. During the same trip, I even spent two hours in a plane seat waiting for the captain to take off because we were stuck due to bad weather. Being stuck on a plane is bad enough when you're in the air. I never want to be stuck on the ground again. However, some plane trips are absolutely exhilarating. One of the most spectacular things I have ever seen in my whole life was in a plane over Texas airspace. Texas has some of the greatest thunder storms in the world and I got to see one from the sky. Big explosions of light everywhere around and underneath the plane. It was gorgeous. I have also seen the sun rise over the clouds in a plane, which is pretty great. Normally when the sun rises, it's not there and then suddenly there's light. You normally don't get to see the sun actually rise. Well, in my experience, you totally get to see the sun actually rise when you're at an elevation above the clouds. In the last two years, I have flown in and out of Hawaii a lot and flying into Hawaii is fun because one of the first things you see is a great view of Diamond Head. In general, I'm not a huge fan of flying, but yes, there can be some cool aspects. There are several places I want to fly to in 2009, but I may or may not have to be limited to the US this next year. The first flight I will take though is from Hawaii back to the mainland. Either Portland, OR or Los Angeles, CA or Bozeman, MT. Those are long stories but I am excited to get back to civilization. There are some websites that still sell around the world tickets for fairly cheap. Like, in the range of 2-3000 dollars, with multiple stops, which is pretty fantastic. Ideally, I'd like to do that some time in the upcoming years.

I am in Europe right now. Long flight, third visit since last April. I am very tired now. Long flights are not my favorites now. I have to stay in Europe for almost one month. Fares are very expensive. View is always nice. Airports are not.
