When I was young I remember getting gum and suckers and hard candy in my Halloween bag. That was okay because my brother like them and I would trade him for his chocolate. The lady down the street made the most delicious popcorn balls and we always looked forward to that, another lady did cookies shaped like pumpkins and frosted pretty, and still another made rock candy to give out. Well, you can't do that now because of all the truly scary people around but you can still give out good candy. I always remember how I was disappointed at the hard candy and gum so nowadays I give good stuff! I get little Halloween bags and stuff them with at least 3 pieces of good chocolate (the little bars like Snickers), a Tootsie Roll pop, a couple of Smarties and maybe a piece of sugarless bubblegum. I have special bags that I put little toys in for the really young kids (along with the candy, of course!) that are safe for them. I hand it out to everyone! Kids, adults, teens, dogs, there's nobody I won't give candy to on Halloween. I like dressing spooky and sitting on the porch with the big basket of treats! How about you? What do you give out? Do you dress up and wait for the kids or do you sit down as normal inside your house?

We also give out those little bags, because it's like a little mystery full of candy. It's fun to guess what the kids are. As more new cartoons come out, it gets harder and harder to figure out who they are! It's great to be older and dress of scary.

Yeah, I don't know half the characters they're supposed to be! I always love seeing the ones who made their own, like dice costumes or vampire stuff--they use old clothes and accessories and make some really creative costumes!

I remember growing up, there used to be this huge house on the corner of our street. They did their house up to the nines, they had guys in costumes running along the lower roof and jumping down beside/behind you (didnt do this to the little little people). They used to dig up parts of their front yard and build makeshift caskets and half bury them, the whole set up was amazing. They never gave out candy, they gave out 'things'. One year they gave out rubix cubes, another year it was pencil sets, flashing halloween necklaces..really neat stuff. As for me now that i am older...i take the kids out and about, I do dress up though :) i love halloween, its my fav. We do up our house, in and out, play music with the speakers to the window. My hubby hides behind things and jumps out at the kids to hand them candy :) last year he handed out candy with our snake wrapped around his neck, the kids loved it :)

You must live in a warm state for the snake to be out at night! That's such a cool thing to do! My neighborhood is starting to decorate already, the house on the corner is cobwebbed and coffined, with tombstones in the yard and all kinds of great stuff. Down the street is a big inflatable ghost waving to everyone! I love this place, people really like to decorate around here!

actually, i live in a country area in ontario, a small village in booneyville :) it wasnt too bad in our area last year weather wise. We used the smaller snake, he is only about 3 feet long, so he can comfortable wrap around my hubbies neck while still staying tucked into the collar of his shirt making sure the body heat keeps the snake comfortable. trick or treating only lasts about 2/3 hours in my area, and there isnt a constant flow of kids at my house, so there is lots of indoor warm time in between.

When I was growing up I never got to go trick-or-treating. We lived out in the country and there were really no neighbors to speak of. When I was in my teens I did get to go into town to stay with an old lady to pass out her treats for her. She was in her late 80's and had so many kids come to her door on treat night! So the only fond memories I personally have of trick-or-treating is when I took my own kids around their neighborhood. It's a fun time of the year. I like seeing the little kids dressed up, and especially the kids you know (and they think you haven't a clue who's in that costume lol...but you do know and pretend you don't know who they are until they proudly tell you. Cute lol) I don't pass out candy, I stopped buying it about 10 years ago. I live back in the country again and I quit buying the candy because I never had anybody stop. (Halloween was a lot more fun when I lived in the city!)

We lived in the desert when my children were small and I'd take them into town since there was nobody coming to our house. Later, they built a development about ten miles from us and we went there. No way were my kids going to miss out on trick or treating-or me, either! Love your avatar!

I am not rich so I can't afford to give out all chocolate candy, but I do buy Snickers, Reese's, Milky Way, M&M's, the usual. I reach into the bowl and give each kid like 3 candy bars (the fun size ones) and like a Tootsie Roll Pop and some Smarties. Something like that. I usually have leftovers which don't last very long in my house. I have 4 kids so I usually am out taking them door to door. Then when we are done we hand out candy if there are any trick or treaters left. Usually, there are some. When my oldest was a baby we dressed him up but did not take him out - he was only 6 months old at the time. But we always just sit in the house as normal and hand out candy that way. But like I said, usually most of the kids have come by by the time we are back from trick or treating ourselves. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I'm not rich, either, I wish I was! I'd include quarters and stuff in the bags! I start buying candy the beginning of September when I see good sales and by Halloween I usually have enough. Coupons help, too! There's not much that's more fun than taking a kid trick or treating!
