You know, where you use colored sand and a funnel to make decorative bottles. What kid doesn't love it? My son made his first sand art today while at a German Festival we were attending. I get so sentimental of all 'the firsts' he has. I am a hopeless case!! Somebody save me please....... Sand Art!! Please tell me you can relate. And someone please tell me that 15 years from now when he is away at his first year in college I will NOT find this silly sand art bottle and start to cry.

I can definitely relate. I do remember doing this art project when I was in grade school over 150 years ago..lol It was so much fun and I saved the bottles for years. The excitement of seeing the various colors layered on top of each other was an amazing sight. I also remember another project we use to do using a screen and colored chalk. Rub the chalk over the screen and watch it fall into jars very similar to the sand art. I don't recall any of our kids doing either project but it might be because I am having a fossil moment.

Yep we sure did have sand 150 years ago. We went by horse and buggy to the store to buy it.

Oh I bought hair dye. It's been on the market for 150 years. Gray heads didn't want to turn gray so color was available..lol

I do remember it and my kids loved doing and seeing it done. It was such a simple form of art but so gratifying to see something so lovey as the end results.....my kids keep theirs for a long time...I think I was the one that finally had to pitch them!

Children grow up fast. The sand art bottle will be a memento to make you remember your son's childhood when he grows up and leaves home. I have cards that my son have made me on father's day.

:) lol... I still have sand art from my daughter when she was that young... You will have many many firsts... You better grab some Kleenex and carry them with you! :) I still tear up when I see my daughter do something even after the first time... like everytime she gets up to bat in softball - she has been playing for 5 years! lol

Yes, I remember seeing that stuff, but I have never made any sand art myself. That is a nice activity for your son to get to do. Make sure you tell him to take it with him to college so you will not be sitting in his room one day while he is off at college blubbering about it.

We did it a little differently. We put glue in patterns on a piece of paper, and coloured sand on the paper, and then blew it with a straw. Then we'd dump the excess sand back into the bottle, put more glue on the paper, and start with a different colour. I had forgotten about that until now. LOL

I remember sand art. Actually a good friend of mine brought me a lovely gift from Jordan which was sand art. And trust me, one of these days you will find some "art" that your child had done long ago and you will get misty.

I bet that art work from Jordan is truly lovely. Yes, I expect I'll be misty over 'art'work many times in my life.

I know I am saying another thing, but, lol, I DO love the sand art from Jordan, it is amazing! Many mothers are keep way too much attention on their kid(s), my son is 6 now, when he was below 4, I did the same, took tons of photos for him, write down everything he did 1st time or the words he first saying... it is precious and still cute, but now I am more independent from him because I know I can't selfish wishing he to belong to me own, he is a person, a human being, I should let him to go into a bigger world than me, and pray all good for him.
