Do you still keep old letters or do you throw them out?

I am a sentimental person and love keeping old letters and cards from my friends and loved ones. I would sometimes start reading them when I feel sentimental or I'm missing someone from my family. There would be times when I would read the cards that were given to me by my dad. Makes me miss his shaky handwriting all the more... I think the oldest letters that I have were made when I was still four or five years old. That's how careful I keep my letters and cards. To my fellow MyLotters, do you still have old letters hidden somewhere?

I am very sentimental and on top of that I am a pack rat. Yes, I keep all my old letters and cards and correspondence from all the years. It drives my husband crazy because I hang onto everything but it means so much to me. I have many old letters from a dear aunt who passed away last year. It makes me smile to be able to go through her old letters and birthday cards to me. It is something that is still tangible of her since she is gone now. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Hi Schulzie! Pack rat huh? Guess we're the same. Sigh. I guess there are good point in being a pack rat. Lol. Yes, Letters and cards are tangible things that you can go back to when people are no longer around. (Okay. Now I miss my dad all the more. Sigh. )

WOW!!! You're really a GOOD keeper! I don't keep letters from that young of age, but I still have letters when I was in Junior High School (so about 16 years ago), High School, University. I also keep some of the cards from my friends, esp. those with important notes inside. I LOVE reading them and feeling loved and encouraged by them. :-))))

I think it is important to keep old letters, especially if they are from family members or old friends. It is a good way to document parts of your life and you won't be sorry you kept them!

True. If they're from family members and friends, I take special care of them. I love reading them from time to time. Especially with my friends. They're all living different lives but we still make it a point to keep in touch.

Hello rosedust82. I have always love keeping old letters, cards, and other old stuff. It reminds me about happy memories from my past, from my childhood, from the people i love. The old letters i kept was a letter from my Dad to my Mum when she went abroad, and Dad thought He will never see her again. It was the most sweetest love letter i have ever read. It has been kept by my mum and now its in my precious keeper box. :)

Hi Gracie. Hmmm... That's why I don't like moving around. Have a hard time keeping track of things! Especially if they're in boxes labelled "stuff." haha.

I tend to keep all my letters. I don't read them often but I do sometimes break them out and just see how stupid or crazy I was when I was younger. I have them stuck in an old shoe box. It's actually completely and utterly stuffed to the top of letters too.

I usually throw them out. That is what I do. Unless I have a reason to keep the old letters I just put them in the trash can after I read it. But that is me.

I will only keep my love letters. Lol. Normally I don't keep the normal letters from friends unless there is any special reason or story in it. Because my room is ran out of space to keep all the letters. Sometimes,I face difficulty to stuff in all the letters. I like my room to be as simple as possible, meaning to have the lesser things the possible. Lol.

Lol... That's the problem I have as well. I have no idea where to stuff my letters.

I actually do keep a couple of old letters. I actually threw some away. I only kept some because those letters meant a lot to me. Those I threw away have no significance at all to my life.

True. The ones that I've kept are the ones that mean a lot to me or have a sentimental value.

I do keep our love letters. For me, my husband love letter is a treasure. Every gifts and every card that he gave to me, i always keep them. When he came to visit me, i am very proud to show to him all his letters and cards to me. Keeping those things is the best way to show your partner how much you love her and how much you treasure all the things that he gave to you.

That's sweet of you. I'm pretty sure your husband feels happy as well to see that you've taken such good care of the things he's given you.

here,i have to say that there's no old letters for me any more, i have to throw them out before i married, since they are almost from my male friends but none from my husband! my friends and i write letters when we were in senior high school, that's the nice days i cherish till now. my husband met me when i was a junior, and it's quite certain that he will jealous after reading those letters. so it's better to keep them away from me, but they will always in my mind.

Yup... Definitely have to keep old love letters where no one can find them. Lol. Kidding aside, I guess that's the case with anyone who's married or is seriously with someone. Have to give up those letters from the exes to avoid any conflicts.

Hi there rosedust82! I am a very sentimental person... just like you. I do keep letters and cards no matter how old they are. There are times when I would go over some of them and reminisce. I have a box which I made myself where I keep all those letters and cards. There are even instances when I would print out emails sent by my friends and loved ones and keep them in the same box.

That's really nice. I have mine in a box that I bought on one of my trips. It's really colorful and eye-catching... but I like your idea. I would like to make my own box... hmmmm.... I have to go and start on that.

Hi! since my heart was broken before, the old letters that I used to read from an x-girlfriend were accidentally thrown away by our aunt. Maybe she thought that it was just a piece of trash LOL :) Fortunately, it was meant to be thrown away for me not to remember the pain again.

Aww... Sorry to hear that my friend. Well, I guess that's a not so subtle way telling you that you need to "move on". Lol. But really, I do hope you're better now.

letters - pictures of letters
Hi there! I do keep the letters I receive from friends. I have them all in a small tin can together with my stationaries. It's fun to read them and remembering the past and the stuffs I use to do with my friends. I also have lots of letters from my ex boyfriend. I still keep them though we're not together anymore. Keeping letters for me is one way to help us never forget about our pasts I think. Our friends especially those we don't see anymore. And not to forget about the special events that happened in our lives cause once we read one letter, all memories from the past starts to freshen up. And I like remembering the past. Ciao!

Hi Rose, I usually keep the old letters but only of people whom I care and love a lot, a thought of whose gets a smile on my face. Reading letters of loved ones always gives me pleasure which I cherish and therefore I always treasure the letters and card of my loved ones.

Very true... I find letters and cards as a way of showing people how we feel. I love getting them. Actually, I prefer them to real gifts... believe it or not.

I kept some letters from my best friends.Today, not very many people choose to write letters, but I think that's a way to express our emotion than any other ways. I won't keep all the letters, only the one who has left a deep impression on me. When I read some of them again and again, I'll feel very closed to them.Always they are far from me now.I even lost someone's message,so I kept a lasting memory this way.I have a nice box to filled the precious letters. That's a box of forever memory ,I think.
