Do you wash your vegetables before putting them in the fridge?

I was hearing a radio conversation where a health inspector suggested that one should wash the vegetables before storing them in the fridge. In the fridge there are different types of food, some already cooked. So contamination from vegetables to other food can occur. Do you wash your vegetables before putting them in the fridge?

I heard that by washing them before storing them makes then go bad faster. I normally leave them in the produce bag and stick them right in the fridge.

I wasn't doing it before! I normally wash vegetables when I'm going to cook it. And I saw my friend washing the vegetables before putting in the fridge and I start to do the same.

Actually I don't wash them unless I get them straight out of the garden. Most times I get from store and store straightaway in fridge. I guess this is the wrong way. Well we do indeed learn something new everyday.

I don't wash the vegetables before putting them in the fridge. I've heard that if you do so, the veggies can't last for long, unless you are going to cook them the next day. I actually tried before, and it really couldn't last long as compared to the unwashed veggies.

No, I do not wash fresh vegetables before putting them in the refrigerator. I've always understood that they keep longer unwashed. Of course, anything that is obviously dirty would get washed right away. Fresh vegetables are kept separated in a container or in a plastic bag so that could not contaminate other foods. They are washed thoroughly before cooking or serving.

No, my wife would not washed all those vegetables if she will put it inside the refrigerator or in chiller for she will just put it in a plastic bag and sealed those vegetables and if she will used it then that is the time she would washed it before she will cut it into pieces......

We belong to a CSA (consumer supported agriculture) program where we pay a fee for a basket & for 16 weeks we fill our basket with seasonal produce. The farmers there recommend washing in cold water to avoid breaking down enzymes and washing right before use to avoid losing nutritional value and to keep fresh longer. I use ziploc baggies and try to fit everything in the frig drawers and put cooked food in sealed containers...don't know if that the proper way but it seems to work for us.

I think that I have heard that you should wash vegetables before putting them in the refrigerator to keep them from getting contaminated and it makes a lot of sense just like you should wash them before eating them, whenever my mom gets vegetables for vegetable trays or something, she always washes them very good before putting them in bags or containers to store in the refrigerator I guess because she assumes it is healthier to do that.
