want to see a doctor for it, so...in what ways can i be helpful to him (other than moral
support) in this regard?...please share your experiences

Yeah I do beleave he can quit without seeing a doctor since I know a lot of people who quit smoking and never went to the doctor. This is a very good time for him to quit since most people start seeing the affects of smoking around his age and hopefully smoking hasnt already hurt him so good luck to your dad.

He can quit without seeing a doctor, I quit 4 month ago and never seen a doctor.
If he needs help with a patch then I guess he want to see a doctor.
