Why is there no gas in the Southeast.

Sure, Hurricane Ike took out a few, or more than a few, pipelines and oil platforms. But, those were for the entire country. Even Texas where the hurricane actually hit is not suffering a gas shortage. Nor is any other place in the US.
In fact, right before Ike, stations in North Carolina hiked gas prices a whole $1. Everyone else hiked a little bit or decided to wait and see.
So, why is the Southeast -- especially Georgia -- the only place in the country with a gas shortage?

That's an excellent question. Personally, I didn't even realize this was going on, since Ike took out our power (in Ohio) for 100 hours. We missed lots of news and have been struggling to catch up. I just found out yesterday that friends in Georgia were having problems finding gas near their home. Weird to me.

See, you were directly affected by Ike, but I bet you can find gas near your home. There are stories of stations being DRY -- as in no gas at all with no deliveries expected. How can that be in just one place in the country? Surely, the gas companies and the station franchises can get the deliveries to keep making money for them.
