How about this for a new plan

I am against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend . To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend . Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam. But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00. What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved. Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads Put away money for college – it’ll be there Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car – create jobs Invest in the market – capital drives growth Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18 + including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President. If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+! As for AIG – liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t. Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.” But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party ! How do you spell Economic Boom? I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC. And remember, The Mark* plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam. I vote no what do you think of a plan like this one...Makes more sense to me.

Mnflower, your plan makes so much more sense than anything the politicians have come up with! Please, please, please send it to everyone on Capitol Hill! I hope you don't mind that I plan to do that if I can figure out a way to sit or print it. Wall Street bankers screwed it all up, so why are we supposed pay them this huge bonanza? Your way is a huge improvement, and would actually benefit us all.

I am hoping that alot of people send this to congressmen and majors, and anyone that might see that it is the people that not the help and would solve there problems more than bailing out the richer who don't know how to conserve and make money but only spend and get richer.

Thank God bail-out plan was voted down today! Maybe we can actually get something going with our legislators before they return to the discussion on Thursday

Personally, I am not sure if this would help solve the Economic problems here, as you know a lot of people would not think like you do, and pay off their Bills and such. If people's mortgages were paid off for them instead of being handed the $$ this might help more with the housing problem, but you know they will never think like this. I think this Bailout thing is a Joke in reality, and unless someone can force them to use the $$ to better the Economy instead of just a couple people's pccketbooks we might start seeing a Better economic future as well. Just something I think they need to consider here as well.

I wouldn't say no to a large check and I do believe I could put it to use.

You know, I said the exact same thing to my husband this afternoon. I did not break it down like you so brilliantly did, but I said instead of giving the money to these corporations, it should be given to the citizens instead to bail us out. Yeah, they gave us that silly little stimulus check, which we have to pay taxes on, so how much did that help. The little man is still left behind, regardless of what the government does. Consequences we face: If you can not pay your rent/mortgage, you are put out on the street, who cares! If you can not pay your utilities, they are shut off, who cares!! If you can not pay your credit cards, they increase the interest and minimum payments to make it harder for you to pay, who cares!! If you can not afford gas, you can not get to work, you get fired, who cares!! if you can not buy food for your family, your babies goes hungry, who cares!! If you are Aig, and the likes, the government comes to your rescue, and they in turn increase fees for their services, in order to pay back their debt, and the little man is again overlooked, WHO CARES!!!!
