OMG DO you not care??

How do you pick your tattoo artist? I have this burning question from a tattoo artist perspective. I want to see how a typical client picks their tattoo artist. I so many times get clients that say , I do not care, do what ever you want. I will have to resort to purple bunnies and rainbows or things like that to finally get a person to tell me what they want. I have to say 90% of the people I tattoo have not even glanced at my portfolio . what is up with this, DO YOU NOT CARE , what you are getting on your body for the rest of your life? So how do you find your tattoo artist , do you go with the guy that looks hot , or in my case girl , Professional Female tattoo artist here babe, and yep I am hot .. maybe.. anyways .. or do you actually look at their portfolios . or do you even care what you get . Do you even worry about what it is , or do you get tattooed just to say you have been tattooed . Please restore my faith back into this amazing art form.

I think that people are getting more foolish every single year! I don't trust the general public to make decisions, they don't know a thing. I would certainly know what I was getting and insist to make sure it comes out perfect. Knuckleheads!

You do tattoos?! Wow, that's an amazing talent! I've seen some beautiful tattoos and considered them at various times of my life but never gotten one. How can people not care?! I would like to have a dragon with his head over my shoulder, his body across my back and his tail curling around my belly. But I'll never do it. It's fun to think about.

yep , I am a tattoo artist . I have been in the industry now for about 11 years off and on . I really do not understand why people do not care sometimes . it really bothers me though . That is a really cool idea about the dragon , if you ever do decide to do it , please let me see pictures.

I have my own tattoo guy he was on Miami Ink for a while now he lives here where i do,i have seen all of his work, but i design my own with his help, yes this is some thing that people really should put a lot thought into, some people do it on whim, and some times it works out and then some times it don't.I make sure we pick the proper place for them to be put,the body changes with age,and so will the tattoo and this is some thing a lot of women dont think about, and that is scary, yes i do care and so do all of my kids care we think first an so do my friends.

If I were going to get a tatoo, I would ask my bother to do the work. He has offerred many times, i am just not interested in getting one. If he wasn't the artist that he is and I wanted one, I would have to research a bit to find one that has sterile procedures, and is very clean themselves. i definately would not want to chance cntracting some disease just for a bit of ink on my skin.

He has tatooed my younger brother and my Dad. Mom is still trying to decide on a design. He has also deisigned quite a few of his own, and tatooed himself. He says that it is enjoyable to do.

I do not have a tattoo, I am getting one in July though. I am only going to get things that mean alot to me, and things that I would like to remember. I plan on having alot though. I would look at pictures of the artists work to decide what artist I want. I really thing most are qualified and trust worthy. I would not be getting anything too over-ly complex. So the artist wouldn't really matter to me. Although I would prefer the one who has the best pictures of work.

I have never had a real tattoo just a tattoo made out of henna which is erasable. I want to get one though but I think I will choose someone who practices safely. I want to see that all that he'll be using is sterilized and the place is clean. Ofcourse someone who'll get my requested tattoo the way I want it to be..

I for one don't want no rainbow and no purple bunny on me. I choose my artist well I have seen the work that she does. She has tattooed many and I mean many of my friends. As well as I picked her cause she is actually sitting down with me and helping me on my design as well. She has been giving alot of insight to it as well. Changing things here and there and improving it quite well. I care what I am getting on me and for others I just don't know what to say.

hehe do not blame you for not wanting the bunny or rainbow , I just say , when some asks me , what should I get , you pick for me or what I think is cool . Then I pop up with pink pidgeons or neon butterflies . Depends on the person really.

I have a couple tattoos and I chose my artist because he is incredible! His work is fantastic. A friend of mine had been going to him for years... she has so many tattoos!... and she recommended him. I saw the work he did on her, especially the vines down her spine... OUCH! And, of course, I looked through his portfolio, but I was sold after seeing hers. He did the exact tattoo I wanted, free styling it while I sat there and watched. He is awesome and I'll never let another tattoo artist touch me with a needle.

My first tattoo was done by an artist that was recommended to me, and i saw some of there work before i got mine done. I knew what i wanted, just had to pick out which one i wanted. My second tattoo was basically my design, and done by my cousin who i seen his art work on paper as well as on skin. He is an amazing artist and did a great job.

I think some people get tattoos just for the novelty of it. I got a couple of tattoos that I'd been wanting for a long time. For whatever reason people get tattoos, if it makes them feel better, what is the harm in it? You get to practice and show off your art, they get to feel better. Win/Win.

hmm , see the only harm i see , is if people end up with a nasty story or veiw on tattoos themselves. I do agree it can be a win win , but what if they get a horrible tattoo , word of mouth can be a horrible thing. I know people already have their set veiws on tattoos and they are good veiws . That is cool , you have every right to that , what I am asking about is , why not take a second to think before you do , kinda thing.

Piercing Tattoo on the body doesn't expose you so hot.... It looks something that pasted on the body..... Normally I don't advice my friends to paste or pierce Tattoo..... Think 100 times before piercing tattoo on your body... Because, after piercing the tattoo, even if you like to remove that, you cannot remove that from your body... So, think and pierce your Tattoo.....

i have been to 3 tattoo artists/shops. after the first one i learned my lesson. for my first tattoo i was like the person you described a little. i knew what i wanted and had the picture of it but i didnt think about how the artist was or if he was competant he was the only one close by..needless to say i got a spider and he put it upside down, he never let me look at it in the mirror and i didnt know until the next shop i went to that they do that. at the second shop i went to i actually was refered to him and i looked at his work on my friend so i decided to go there, i liked his work but i felt that he wasnt perfect for when i got my 5th tattoo, i did some research and my sister refered me to her tattoo artist, i thoroughly looked through his portfolio and also watched his technique when he tattooed my sister and i loved his work so i had him do my back piece. i didnt feel that my old artist was able to get the details that i wanted and after i went to the last artist and he did my back i came to the decision that he was going to be my artist from now on because i went through everything he had and he is an amazing artist.

I am a woman and had a woman do mine I didn' go looking to see who was the cutest or anything like that. It took me a couple of years to get one. I checked out several places. I looked how clean the place was and then checked the art they had on the wall to choose from (patterns) then I checked their portfolios and that is how I settled on the one I had do mine. I'm thinking about getting another tat but this time on my right shoulder. I'm in a new state sooooo now I have to start all over.

My son has a tattoo, and my daughter would like to get one, eventually. The first thing I told both of them was, If you are going to do this, find a reputable artist to do it. There is one from our area who is well known around the states. I suggested they go to him. The second thing I said was, Make sure that what you have tattooed on you has some meaning to you, it is going to be there for the rest of your life. And, that is how I feel about tats. If you are going to do it, make it mean something, and don't let just ANYBODY do it.

Well, both my kids are over 21 so, I don't really have much say in whether or not they get tattoos, but if they are going to do it, I want them to do it right, ya know?

I have six tattoos by three different artists and I would have to say that my most recent artist will be my permanent one. Before I chose an artist I have to have some sort of referall from like a friend or something so that I can see the work in person. Then I do even more research such as looking into their portfolios and even visiting the parlor to see how things are done!

awesome that is definitely the way to go , find out and research , that will make the tattoo community so much more of a better place to be. So many artists out there do not even care themselves or only have been tattooing for a couple of months . This is horrible , it really makes people that have had bad experiences , never want another tattoo . It is such a shame. This is such an amazing art, it does not deserve to be drove into the dirt. Good response! thank you so much for the lift in my spirits!

Up until the past year or so, tattoo parlors were illegal here in Oklahoma. When we got our tattoos, we went to a parlor in Texas that has a great reputation. They did excellent work, and we were happy with the results. Now that's it's become legal here, parlors have sprung up everywhere. We were so happy with the results in TX though, that we might just take a ride down there next time. Our biggest problem is in finding something unique in artwork. Neither my husband or I have any desire to get something that a lot of other people have. Our current search is for a good 'Greenman'. Eventually when we come across one we like, that will be the next tattoo.

My exhusband was like that... didn't care... he got some of the cheesiest crap tattooed on his body just to say that he had X amount of tattoos. I shop around, look at an artists previous work, cleanliness of the shop etc. took me about two weeks of shopping before I got my first one. Since I'm an Artist and do quite a few custom designs (based on my own artwork) I tell them to do the same, visit the shop BEFORE, check the artists work, and talk to the artist to see if they are comfortable with working from someone elses design.

My primary way of finding a prospective artist to work on me is to go online and check out different portfolios. If a tattooist does not have some sort of web site to look at then, I'm sorry, but I probably won't be going there. Once I've found someone I think I want to work on me I'll go and check out the studio in person and look through the physical portfolio. Only at that point will I actually begin discussing things with the artist and planning to get the tattoo done. I have to admit, my first couple of tattoos I wasn't entirely happy with but now that I've been getting work done for a little while I know exactly what I want in an artist and I know how to find an artist that I'll be happy with.

Exactly , research , and the love of this art by collectors like you will hopefully open the eyes of many people to this art. To be met with discrimination and hate because I wear my heart on my sleeve so to speak , is awful sometimes. Anyway , what I am getting at , if more people will look at what they are getting and whom they are getting it by , I think we will and the art form will be met with a whole new light. This is not just some fad that is going to go away , it is with you for life even if you have it all lasered off. You remember when , why and how you got your tattoos. This art is not ugly or obscene , this is beautiful , face it!
