Why is the Philippines impoverished?

What do you think makes our country impoverished?
I think there are a lot to consider. Some facts: a larger percentage of our population is literate, lots of college graduates each year, and we're rich in natural resources. Just that, I don't think we know how to use it and our skills. Each year, the number of unemployed increases and the number of professionals who goes abroad in search of a brighter future increases but the efforts of the government is always not enough. And it always is. I think it's time we stop blaming everyone else and start blaming ourselves why we are poor. Because we choose to be, and no matter how corrupt our government is, we can still be successful if we work hard for it.

It's a vicious cycle involving corruption, ignorance, and greed. It also involves each and every citizen here in the Philippines. It's like a web of entangled threads.. almost impossible to undo. We can fix this problem.. starting with ourselves. Discipline is the key followed by compassion, and generosity. If we start practicing these things then it may spread on to others.. like a domino effect. Start with yourself and others will follow.

I agree with you. I don't like it also when people look for somebody else to blame. I don't like it when people who are less in life blame everything on the government. I don't like it when employees skip work to do a strike against the government, and then blame the government that they are not earning enough. I too don't like the system of this government. Maybe I got used to it, maybe I don't have trust on it anymore. Maybe I got bored and tired of waiting for improvements.
This country is impoverished because everybody is complaining... no one wants to work.. In this time, I am thinking that the government cannot do anything... everything depends on the people. We know that the government is not useful, so that we need to help ourselves from this time forward.
