My older son learnt to tie his laces at the age of six, but my younger son only at the age of eleven. Your child will learn to tie his/her laces in due course. Don't worry about it. I think we should just enjoy doing little things for our little ones when we can, because they will soon grow up and won't need our help any more.

Yes, I tried with my daughter when she was 4, and then we stopped. I think she can do it now, but because she doesn't have to, she's probably forgotten. When all of their shoes are velcro, it's hard to get the practice - so I'll have to wait until she's a bit older and gets some shoes with laces.

Every child is different and although some kids can tie their shoes at 3, others might not grasp the concept until they are 5 or 6. Practice always makes perfect but if the child is getting fustrated, then it's best to stop practicing before they hate it and try again at a different time. My daughter was 4 when she could tie a sloppy bow but now at 5, she ties really well. At a young age and especially during school, the best types of shoes for them is velcroe or slip ons.
