I don't like using gmail, but I do have a couple of accounts that I use for various things. I don't check it often and probably should as I could be missing important emails. I just logged in and see there is something called the 'gmail notifier' that you can download that will either pop up with an icon or make a noise or something when you have new mail. I don't like downloading new stuff without knowing what else it may do to my computer. Do any of you have the 'gmail notifier' and do you like it? Have you noticed any weird goings on since downloading it? Is it worth it?

I do have that and I don't see anything wrong with it. It's actually very convenient to be alerted of something new coming up. You don't even have to open the actual email right away because the notifier gives you the title and the first few words so it gives you an idea if you should respond to it right away or not. Yahoo and hotmail have the same notifier and I like them all unlike AOL that only makes a sound whenever you have a new mail. However, it's my AOL that I've been using predominantly. Cheers!

I love the gmail notifier! I've had it for quite a while now. The download is quick and simple, and I've never experienced any problems. =)

I like gmail and i feel gmail is more secure than any other email providers as they dont sale our mail adresses , we dont get much spams unless and until we are giving our mail links to private links ,I dont get any gmail notifier at all , i think its a spam or something dont ever download anything , gmail wont send anything like that , it will not send any private mails asking the customer to download only 2 mails it sends intially when you open an account i can tell its the last mail from them too!!!

I have gmail notifier. Mine just shows the envelope in the task bar and changes to a heavy blue outline when there is new mail. It makes it easy to know if I have mail. Also have the gmail calendar and use it often. I used to have the gmail account because there was almost no spam and only gave that address to family, friends, and important accounts as I pay most of them online. But then I gave Direct TV the address and now I am flooded with spam. Don't know if Direct sold my gmail address for sure, but it never happened before they had it.

Gmail is another email program. I don't use it often and this thing would pop up and tell me when I had mail there instead of having to check all the time for nothing.

Hi Ldyjarhead, I like gmail enough to make it my primary emails. Of course, I still have several complaints about gmail but give and take, it is still my first choice. Gmail notifier - I personally have no use for it since if I am online, my gmail will likely be on the whole time. I always can see new mails coming in quite immediately so it is not useful for me. You do NOT need that to use gmail which can be entirely web-based and that is exactly the no-frill way I like it. Cheers!

I don't use this account often so I don't leave it open like I do yahoo, which is why I think this notifier would be a good choice for me.

I am not aware that there is a gmail notifier. I just open my gmail and delete the spam messages. Hardly anything notable ever comes to my inbox these days. Cheers!!

I rarely get an email on that account and that's why I wanted the notifier. It will tell me that I have mail so I can check it then, and not waste time checking it at other times when there is nothing there.

gmail is fine for me but i dont use it much. very few people know the address of my gmail and i raely check it and most of the times i use only yahoo. i use gmail sometimes even to chat with my friends and i dont feel so comfortable with it like yahoo messenger but i like gmails one aspect very much that is it takes up the attachments very easily and also in bulk and hence i like it and mostly i use this gmail id for this purpose only. and i dont know about the gmail notifier as i use it very less and i dont think i require it.

If you don't use gmail often, that's where the notifier would be more advantageous for you. It tells you when you have new mail there. I know it will help me since I rarely get mail there, but I have to check all the time just in case. This will save time since now I'll only have to check when I get notified that something is there.

I find it pretty convienient, and have no issues with it. Might be worth getting if you want to only check when you have mail.

I can't remember when was the last time I opened my gmail account. Is it possible that my account will be deleted after some time on me not visiting it? I have been in Yahoo since I began on internet and haven't had any problems with it except the spam messages that I think is common nowadays. I'll try to download the notifier so eventhough I don't use gmail often, there is some way I am being informed by it. Thanks for opening this topic Ldyjarhead.

That's exactly why I wanted to download it too. I don't think I'll ever switch from yahoo to gmail, but since I do have a gmail account and get an email once in a while, this will save me the hassle of checking all the time when I don't need to, or NOT checking when I DO have an email.

I have 3 accounts in gmail. I like it because of the great storage capacity and everything you needed to compose a mail with most tools are helpful.

Ihave a GMail account, but i havenot seen the mail notifier. It is a problem downloading somethng without knowing about it. Ihave a Hotmail account and i downloaded Msn Live. It totally changed the Internet explorer and iwas not able to openor read mails on GMail because of that. The chat box also vanished. I had to restore my computer to an earlier date to get rid of that. I decided I can do without Msn live.

I don't use gmail often so there's always a chance I'll miss an email if I don't check for several days. I'm hopeful that this notifier will help.

I don't use mine often either, and that's why I wanted this notifier thing. It will tell me when I receive mail there so I'll know to check it then, and not waste time checking it every day for nothing.

I've been using gmail for about 3 years now and I haven't had or noticed any weird goings on. I love the notifier, the one that comes up for me is silent and I haven't had any challenges. You asked if it's worth it? For me it is. Before I started using gmail, I used yahoo a lot but I've tapered off from using it as much.

I still use yahoo for my primary mail, but that's why this notifier will be great, so I don't have to log in and check the other when it's not really necessary. I might get one email every few days, so this will be good to let me know when to check it.

The notifier is great, it doesn't damage anything that I can see and I always know when I have new mail. I have two accounts, though, so it depends which one I'm logged into what it shows new mail for. I have some now, but about to go to bed and they can wait! I use one gmail account for sendearnings emails and the other for personal stuff like family.

Glad to know it doesn't do anything funky, because I sure don't need that. I rarely get mail to that account, but it would be nice to know when I did so I don't have to check every day when it's not necessary.

I've been using Gmail from quite sometime and liked it as compared to other email accounts. For online chat there is no need to download any messenger like its in msn and yahoo. The person pops up while working on the mail account. I did download the notifier once which you have mentioned, its helpful also, but after sometime when I formatted my PC, I deleted it by mistake.Happy mylotting.

I know a lot of people really swear by gmail, but I honestly don't like the format so doubt I will ever switch completely. This tool should work well for me since I won't have to check that account unnecessarily.
