i got a text message from my friend, saying like this :
for your information, the following items have been recalled due to china's milk situation : M&M's, snickers, mento's yogurt bottle, dove chocolate, oreo wafer sticks, monmilk, dutch lady sterilized milk, wall's all natural mango, mini poppers ice cream, magnum ice cream, moo sandwich ice cream, mini cornetto n you can ice cream. stores have been asked by ava to remove them. if you have any of these items in your house, don't eat them. please help to sms to other ya..
i think this rumor is only growing in my place, then i just google it and find this article you can read it in the link:
http://lilwhitedress.blogspot.com/2008/09/chinas-milk-situation-alert.html
in that article we can find the responses of singapore, brunei, hongkong, taiwan, japan, south korea, european union, new zealand and united states regarding that issue.
it's related to the issue that this milk is found being mixed with some material called 'melamine'(?), for increase the price of the milk, because when a little bit melamine (which is toxic in our body), it seems to significantly increase the nitrogen in the milk.
so, don't get offended friends,
this is just what we have to know. just in case the rumor is true, better we stop consuming those items above for a while. take care....

LOL. I have heard this, but I missed the information from the media. I got it from a friend who really concern about health. Yes the info about this matter has been a hot discussions nowadays at least between us in our environment, and it is said that some products that came from China and have milk as the ingredients has been withdrawn from the market in many countries.
But I wonder, why in my country, in Indonesia, I can still see many milk products came from China still sold in the supermarket even in the hypermarket. I started to think that our government is not so serious in handling this matter. I did some small inspection (just when I went to the supermarket to buy some daily goods) and find out that some products that is said to be banned are still sold in the racks.
Some people that are updated with the information like my friends would be aware of that, but how about people like me? Who just got the information just when people around me told me about that? I might have ended up consuming them without any suspicion and die innocently

thanks klaudine for granting my wish to reply this discussion.
really?! so some of those banned items are still available in the supermarkets?
yeah, that's irritating that our government is either not so serious in handling this matter or too slowly moves, despite the fact that this problem is desperately important and urgent to follow up, as it's about people's health and even their safety. i don't know, in our country, it's seem to be difficult to find a really healthy and safe food. there are many threat to our health from many food in the nice and attractive packaging. you know, the threat of formalin, garbage meat, drinking water in plastic bottle and gallon, this milk with melamine etc. i think government and also people like us should start considering it seriously and take any needed actions. Yes I am pretty sure about that. I went to the supermarket just yesterday when I hunt for daily needs. You know these days, my maid was go to her hometown so that I have to buy them myself. And you know, women, we just went here and there buying things out of the list and make ourselves in trouble in the cashier. But that's not the point.
The point is that yes, I still able to find out some products which is banned (and it is clearly stated in the newspaper about that). We didn't complain, because we don't want to put ourselves in trouble, but we kept watching and yes, some people still buy it.
I think the government should start the inspection because some supermarket and some companies doesn't want to lose profit because of the withdrawn products.

yes, i know that in idul fitri's day, everybody come back to their home town to meet with their family.
you are so funny. i like how you described the women' habit in shopping. but that's true LOL - no offensive
yes i agree with you that the government should held a general inspection to supermarkets in our country, maybe just choose them randomly to inspect, that's sad that the supermarket is still selling the product because they don't want to lose profit, as they won't lose nothing else, just profit. i mean, the won't lost their own money (their capital). you know mostly the apply a certain system that allow them to return their products which is not sold in a certain time to their supplier.

helo my friend, i also pay much attention on this issue. there in china during the last month, more than several thousands of children were sick because of the problem of milk.but our goverment has done a lof of arrangement and actions to stop and resolve the problem.and fortunately, a big part of children are no problem now.and the medicine fee for them are free. That is really impressed to me.
now, i know as long as the milk products are made after sep-14 that they are safe ones.I hope all people who are ill get better soon.the ones whose milk have the problem promised that kind of problem never happen again in the future.I believe it is true.
good luck

hi successlog,
that's great your government had taken the proper and needed action to solve the problem. that's what we expect from the government. that's good news also that the produced milk after sep 14th is safe. it means the government have found the method to examine whether the milk is pure or containing the toxic chemical stuff? anyway, hope the problem is completely solve soon so people can safely consume the items mentioned above again. because, well, children like the items. take care....
