Christian or just a believer in Christ?

I firmly believe in Christ, but at this time in my life, I cannot honestly say that I am making any specific effort to live a Christ-like life, and I have never been much for evangelising. Examining what the word "Christian" really implies, can I call myself one? Having known a lot of people who "hate god and Christians" because of negative experiences they've had with people I would call hypocrites and misguided, there are few people in this world that make me angrier than ones who call themselves Christian, but don't genuinely live their lives with a proper understanding or concern for what that means. I hate to become one of those people, so when I asked, I tell people, "I am not a Christian, I am a believer in Christ."

No matter what the religion is, if one leads a good and pure life without huring anyone in the name of religon, then that is what God wants. All religons lead to the same goal, so it is better to lead a good life and be called a good person and not a good Christian or Parsi or Hindu etc.

Funny you brought this up a friend and I were just talking about this last night. I told her that to me being a Christian is trying to be like Christ believing in him is not enough. There are far too many Christians that talk about believing but never strive to reach the measure. The majority of prisoners say they are Christian. We were talking about Antioch and how they were the first to be called Christians which in that time could have very well meant that they were like him instead of just followers. On a side note Christ is Greek for anointed one or messiah in Hebrew.
