Mostly front stance, back stance, and horse stance. Stances are a way of standing to maintain balance and power. They can also be switched from one to another for a variety of purposes such as avoiding a hit or kick and adding power to a forward punch. Most are low like many positions in dancing to help keep balance. So what stances do you do? Do you practice switching from one to another? If you don't do Martial Arts, what positions have you seen in movies or on tv that look interesting to you?

I practice the Chinese Long Fist style, which has a lot of horse stances and bow stances. Most of the movements involve switching between these two stances, or launching into the air from one of them. In sparring practice, I normally use the high false(or empty) stance.

The bow stance is one leg straight and the other one at 90 degrees, the high false/empty stance is, from a standing position, place one foot in forward and gently touch the ground with the ball of that foot. Its normally favored by kickers as it reduces the time you need to shift your weight into a kick.

So how is the bow stance different from the forward stance? Pre-kick stance for the other one, I get it.
