Any suggestions on how a student can budget wisely?

College students are usually self supporting. They have to earn their way through college and utilize all ways and means to survive college with whatever little money they have. What are useful tips that you can advise students? Did you have any method while still studying that had helped you in your financial problems? Anything you can share would be most welcome.

When I was a student I got a joining gift of money when I opened a student account at a local bus. I got myself a young person's rail card that got me one third off train fares. I borrowed books from the library rather than buy all the books of my reading lists. To buy books that were essential to my course I bought them in a road in London that had lots of budget book shops. I looked at getting cheap holidays in the summer holiday so I had something to look forward to. I only shopped for a small amount of cheap food. I bought a push bike and that saved me money on bus fares. Some students had part time jobs but our course kept us so busy that they felt too tired to study. Yes, my course was very demanding because it had more hours of study that any other of the courses. I got a student loan in my final year of study and it was low interest so I paid it off over six years.

FOr one I walked everywhere I needed to go, not only did i save on gas, but I also got a great workout. I saved my change which I still do. Sometimes when friends and I had the same class we would share books, like I would buy one book they would buy the other and then we shared. Or I would borrow books from the library when I could like the novels we read in literature courses. I drank water more than anything. I worked through work study so it helped pay tution as well as gave me alittle something in my account.

Well, I believe whether a student is self-supporting or someone's supporting him/her, she must practice the habit of being frugal. These times of crisis, she must be ready for the real world and she can do this only by living a life of simplicity-- that is to avoid being lured by the fancies of time and people.

I tell my cousin whom is in college to not drive unless needed, shop at the cheapest stores he can find and only buy sale items (unless it is NECESSARY to buy that which isn't on sale), get groceries at dollar stores or 99 cent stores and buy more frozen foods or canned foods, they last longer. Also, try to find anyways you can to make as much extra cash as you can to help out. I told him to sell old cd's, movies, anything that he has that is no longer of use for him. I hope that helps out a bit!
