Do you: mark the best response or just rate?

If you would ask me, I just rate people because I can't decide which response is the best. Do you just rate or mark the best response? There were times one of my responses were marked as best. I return to that discussion to read what's so "best" about it. I couldn't find anything spectacular about it but I'm thankful that the person who posted the discussion thinks that I did good. What about you people?
