im a book person and i love reading. what im trying to raise here though is ive noticed some authors liked to use DIFFICULT SENTENCES,SLANGS,DIFFICULT PHRASE, ALIEN WORDS OR VOCABULARY, lol if u get what i mean. hehe..
i have nothing against them but oftentimes, authors who write in difficult language usually turn me off. its like a huge burden to me and very mind boggling.
i can't help but wonder, why these authors have to make it difficult for readers to understand. can they just use SIMPLE ENGLISH?
one time, me and my friend were in the library and this friend is not a book lover, we were required to go their for our research. she complained that the book she's reading MAKES HER FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT...A PAIN IN THE A**. lol!! i can't help but laugh. i have to agree with her because there are books ive read too that requires me to reread it again so that i can absorb and understand what the author wants to say or relay to the readers.
soooooo writers out there, why do u use difficult language? is it to make it sound cool? unreachable or is it to make the author itself sound very smart and the reader dumb hehehe.....
really.. no offense to anyone out there okay? im just saying whats on my mind. and trying to answer my friends question as well.. still difficult or not its a challenge for me. learning new words, vocabulary, slangs is something what i like about reading but frankly too much of them is...overwhelming:))

I Think that those books made for research purposes are always going to be hard to read and understand and can even result in headaches. Even biographies can do this, but I've found autobiographies to be less of a headache as most of the time the one writing the book is a not a scholar at writing and therefore uses simpler terms as if he or even she is talking to you. As for using words that are unfamiliar or difficult to understand first you must look at the author, is he or she from a different country? Most likely it's translated. Okay the copyright dates. Is it an older book? Then the language say ten years ago is most likely going to be different then that of now. Even the style will be different. What genre is it set in? Is it 1800's? Some authors will try to make you feel like your in the book and at the same time make it easier to transition from one part to the next, therefore they use words that you normally wouldn't think would be said now a days. Especially if the character is speaking it, if they are an older character (I.E. Grandpa, grandma) then their way of talk will be different. Sometimes an author will use words that are generally found in different "cultures" or areas. Such as southern slang. Ain't might be used in a book about slaves or farming, and even about country life... where in Dawg or something of that nature will be used to pertain to someone who lives up North.
Well I hope that this helped!

wow! such a big help! and i do agree with about authors research books being hard. it just makes me want to find and dig another book as well especially if im not in the mood. carrying and shifting from the dictionary to a research book is a hassle. so the culture thing and the genre might explain why there are difficult words being used.
anyway, i really wish they could just trim down those difficult words though coz there are also books that's filled with difficult words and terms that sometimes its difficult for readers to relate what they're talking about.
the comment is a big help and ur the first! thank you so much. i appreciate the answer. have a nice day *_*
