Help me with this Problem

I have a HCL Laptop i got this around 3 years ago and recently i have observed that the battery doesn't even last for 20 minutes even if i am just typing pls recommend some tips i have even reduced the screen brightness this is the configuration 256 MB ram 40 GB HDD Intel Pentium M processor 1.7 Ghz

is something using your processor?? or there may be a defect in your battery try buyin a new one and if tht doesnt help take it to a shop your charger IN TEH LAPTOP mayb busted hope i helped happy lotting and have a nice day

3 years is a long time. Your battery lifespan might be over soon, and it is time to get a new battery (or a new laptop!) However, you should try some of this tips to extend the lifespan of your battery. 1)Make sure you fully charge your battery before using your laptop without power. 2)Compltetly discharge and recharge your battery once every 2-3 weeks. This will help the battery maintain its maximum battery life. 3)When using AC, remove the battery, unless you are charging the battery. 4)For extreme maintenance, consider storing your battery in your fridge sealed in a plastic bag. (That is too extreme for me)

Sounds like your battery may have worn out. You'll probably need to replace it.
