how can i improove my adsense earnings?

i have an adsense account and the ads are shpwing on my blog.but i am new to this field and dont know how to maximise the income from from adsense.now the earnings from it is moving like a snail and i i think it will take more than a year to reach my payout of 100$ in adsense. can anyone tell me how i can earn from adsense and how can i improve the traffic to my blog?
