I just found this article in my E-mail and thought You might have some imput on this subject, just before the holidays. What to do to eat healthy at social gatherings. (1) Eat before you go. This was by far the most popular tip, and probably the most useful. Fill up on healthy foods at home. (2)Place limits. Try a 2 plate limit, and a 2 drink limit. Plan ahead. Find out the menu ahead of time and make healthy choices, before you go. (This certainly is not often an option) (3)Drink lots of water and eat fruits and veggies. You can eat as many veggies as you want without consuming many calories. Just avoid dipping sauces and dressings. Have a big salad before the main course. Again, avoid too much dressing, and go for the lighter dressings. (3) Avoid alcohol. It’s just empty calories. You can have fun without alcohol — I do it all the time. ( if this isn't a choice keep it down to very little) (4)Bring your own. If it’s a potluck-style gathering, cook something healthy and bring it with you. If I do this it's always gone when I get to it) (5)Just try to eat healthy most of the week, and relax when you are at social gatherings. This is one of my favorite tips. :) You don’t need to eat healthy all the time. This is the tip I usually follow, but you’ve got to come up with other strategies when you’re going to social gatherings almost every night of the week (I couldn’t help it this past week, but it’s not my usual schedule). What are your strategies for eating healthy (or not) when you’re out at social gatherings? Share in the comments! Have fun with this one.

Wo wo wo, Social gathering = not cooking for yourself. So eat, eat, eat. Definitely don't eat before you go; that would only take up space in your stomach for all the lovely food you're going be presented with. It is important that you 1. Eat a bit of everything offered to you... otherwise it might just seem rude, and 2. If you enjoy drinking, then drink. It is a social gathering after all! So, to summarise: eat, drink, be merry... and go for a long run to burn it off later.

I wish I could still do this, but it would be a week before I felt well again if I did that. Thanks for your response

I try to eat before I go to a party. The problem is that everything looks so good at a party that it's hard to resist things. I also try to load up on the veggie tray at parties and shrimp first. That way I won't eat too much of the heavier stuff.

Good for you the only way i can control eating is to preplan and eat before I go, like you do, If I don't do that and I see that beautiful table that I didn't have to prepare I'm lost. 5 LBS in the morning. Thanks for your response
