Is this normal for boys?

The funniest thing just happened...
My 5 year old twins are sitting here drawing pictures of pumpkins. They kept showing me the pictures, I'd take a quick look and tell them nice.. then my daughter says something, and I must have heard her wrong. I asked her to repeat and she says "Tyler's pumpkin has a butt and a wiener". So I look at the picture, and sure enough.. the pumpkin has anatomy. I tried so hard not to laugh... but then began wondering where they heard that word... because I don't use it. My son said he heard it from a boy at school. Then he ran around the house non stop talking about wieners and how boys and girls go pee. He even named his pumpkin drawing "wiener head".
Although I'm not happy about him hearing this word... I don't think it's a really big deal. Seems to me like it's a typical boy thing, although my oldest son never once did this at home... can't say if he did in school or not.
I did talk to him about not saying that word anymore, because other people may find it "gross" and he understood.
So is this normal for little boys to go around chatting about their anatomy with their friends, and thinking it's funny? Am I right in thinking this isn't a big deal?

Yes, boys do it. And, the more you make a deal of it, the more they will do it. You probably nipped yours in the bud, if he understood that people would think it wasn't nice. But he'll grow out of that. I guess the books brought out the 'anatomy' in him.
You'll hear more as they get older, believe me! Kids talk so differently than we did when we were young. Seems they know too much too young.

My oldest still thinks it's gross to talk of those sorts of things.. he's 11. He never went through this phase... at least not that I saw. So it's all new to me.

Some kids are sort of shy about these things and don't want to talk about them. Others think they know it all and won't talk. But then you have those that are fascinated by it and will talk. And if we don't talk to them, they will hear it from other kids and may not have the true story. It was funny, though, that your daughter came and told you. So she apparently understands, too. They'll be easy to talk to about these things.

lol that is kind of cute. well, my boy is only 1 so he hasn't done that yet. but i did daycare for years and i've dealt with many boys. it is normal. i'm sure weiner is a word someone's parents used to teach them what their area is called. my friend taught her boys it was their pee bug. if my mom only knew the way i talked in school. so i think you are right, it isn't a big deal.

I've always called it a pee pee, for boys and girls, that's the word I taught my kids. Which is why I found it odd that he was saying wiener.
When I was young my mother wanted us to use the actual words... which I'm not sure I can say on Mylot, but you know what they are, lol. I never joked about it in school with my friends, but I was very mature for my age, even when I was 5 years old.

katameow1213 hi oh my thats the most normal thing for little boys going, even happened back when my son was that age, and he is 49 now.so its really normal and I wouldnot empathize it so he will drop that word.Little boys have always done this among themselves and I guess they always will. so dont worry about it at all.
